For the phone interface you need a Ross-Tech cable, none of the cheap clones has been reported working with the phone interface yet.

Install Notes for Right Hand Drive A4 B7 and SDS Mic Wiring

Thanks HX Guy for your guide.

Just wanted to add a couple of my photos from a Right Hand Drive Install.
The Unit fits very easily high up above the Glove Box Spot, See Photos, I daisy chained some Christmas colored Zip ties (Christmas Rules) to get it firmly in place and easily out of the way.
Also if you plan on using the SDS Hack you should wire the microphone in and out of the RNS-E, Lots of info on this by searching the forums, but I have added some pics of the pins and a molex connector I used to wire the mic to the RNS-E.
NSXJr's kits might have this already incorporated not sure, but as he doesn't sell kits overseas then my comments still apply to RHD models.
Only needed two of the Audi Repair Wires Part# 000 979 009 from the dealer because they have a pin on each end, cut them in half and you have four factory wires with pins to insert into the RNS-E C Connector. Mic+ is the center wire of the cable and mic- is the outer shielded bit.
The four wires at the other end of the Molex plug go to the Bluetooth Mic In and the Microphone itself, kinda self explanatory but then again this an Idiot's Guide post.

I have bought the bluetooth unit and also cables.
I've received them today. This is what I received :

There are only 3 cables that are "free" (they are in none of the connectors) : Tel+ Tel- and K Diagnose.

Could someone please tell me where do I have to plug them ?

See the attached picture (from Concert II+, RNS-E is slightly different)
If you have an A4 the K-Diagnose is allready connected. Put the cables in the same pin. (See here for more info)

I have tried to install this today, and I've noticed that I already have cables in pins 6 and 12 (TEL+ and TEL-) so I've cut them and joined with the BT interface TEL+ and TEL- cables.
Is wire labelled "K Diagnose" the same as "K-Line" pin ?

I've turned the RNS-E on and I got the message "Nota : Your phone might not be connected properly (...)". Is it normal (I did not make any changes with VAG-COM yet because I do not have VAG-COM cable)...

K-lins is K Diagnose. "Your phone might not be porperly connected" means that it sees the interface but not the phone. Proper coding is a must before this will start working.

The K line is used in older Audis (TT MkI, A3 8L, A4 B5/B6/B7, A6 C5) to configure a device. In newer Audis diagnostics is done via CAN.

Where to buy the cables/harness?

This is a great thread :D. Can anyone help me find the right cables/harness?

I have a retrofit RNS-E in A4 B7. I have ordered the BT-module, mic and antenna (VAG parts) , but I am not sure where to buy the harness/cables that u guys have on your pictures posted. I have tried ebay, but having problems to find, probably using the wrong search phrase.

I dont know if this does matter, but I have also ordered a rear view camera (Q7), and soon a Kufatec IMA with a "Wiring harness for IMA Audi RNS E" like in this post. Will this conflict with the cables/harness to the BT?
I will also activate the SDS.

I would be really happy if someone could help me out :)

turn off the "bip"

hello, thanks to this page, cause i could install my bluetooth kit, yes!!!
but i have a trouble, my phone always disconnect/reconnect...
i think o can't do anything, or change phone...
the trouble is that the rns-e shut down music to make a "bip" each time!
is there something to shut down the "bip", for my phone to disconnect/reconnect when he want, but without shut down my music and without making me a "bip"?
thank you!

my phone always disconnect/reconnect...
I've seen this happen for one of three reasons:

1) an incompatible phone (it happened to me with a Nokia N70, which would disconnect and reconnect every 30 minutes or so).

2) too many entries in the phonebook and/or dialled/received/missed call lists in your phone - try clearing the call lists.

3) on a SonyEricsson mobile this happened when I had some entries in the phonebook of type "Other" (instead of Home, Work or Mobile) - deleting those entries solved this problem.

P.S. There is no way to stop the "beep" and the muting/pausing of the music/radio when the phone connects or disconnects.

thanks for your answer!
i don't know if my phone is not compatible, but sometimes all works very fine, with all fonctionnality's, and other times, disconnect/reconnect, but refind all fonctionnality's...

i'll try to clear some things, but i hab the same trouble after installing new os on phone, so no phone diary yet etc...

i'll watch my entries... but i have all on same : "mobile"
i'll try ti delete my contact list that is in the phone, and use only sim, to see if it fix something!

thanks again!

ps : arg for the bip!

It wont conflict with the reverse camera.

You can buy the wiring harness from some of the sellers on here or order one from Kufatec.de
Thanks. I got my harness from Kufatec and these days I am installing the BT-module, and it seems to work really great :D.

Is there no way to turn the volume of the beep down either? The sound is really loud in my car :-(

We don't know of a permanent way to make the beep quieter, all you can do is wait for the beep and turn the volume control down while the beep is happening. P.S. there is a short silence before the beep that you can use as a hint when the beep is about to happen!

BT volume too low

Hello,

It's been a long time I've installed the BT module as presented in this topic.

But BT sound is very very low, so that I cannot use BT while driving (the engine sound disturbs any conversation).

Even with proper VAG-COM coding and trying to configure BT, the sound remains very low !

I've been reading this topic again, and I was wondering if my pin connections are ok.

In fact, when installing the BT harness, I had a TEL+, TEL- and K-Line cables that I had to plug somewhere. But I realized that my RNS-E already has TEL+ and TEL- plug with RNS-E cables. So I've cut them and joined them with the BT TEL+ and TEL- cables. Maybe I should have been disconnecting the original TEL+ and TEL- cables and plug the BT ones instead of cutting them and joining them ?

Sorry for this post (it may sound not very clear), but it's a shame having a BT module installed and not being able to use it !

Any clues ?

It sounds like you may have another device connected to the TEL+ and TEL- wires that is attenuating the audio.

That is exactly what I was thinking about.
In fact, I've had the original Audi analog phone connected to a Symphony II radio.
When I installed the RNS-E, I've just unplugged the Symphony II and plugged all wires to the RNS-E without disconnecting any TEL+ or TEL- cables.
When I installed the BT module, I've just cut the existing TEL+ and TEL- cables and joined the ones from the BT module into the existing TEL cables.
I will try to unplug them and plug directly the BT ones, maybe it will work !

So you have the original phone AND the BT module both attached to the TEL+ & TEL- wires - that's the problem I reckon.

Just unplug the original phone module.
