So £85 off eBay (with restricted functionality) or €129 from a reputable supplier (with the same restricted functionality) or €189 from the same reputable supplier with full functionality.

Your choice I guess...

Plus 39 plus 29 mate. I see your point but I'm not looking to spend that much just for it to change when I put it in reverse.

I would like to do the whole hog and get a HDD that talks to the IMA+ and watch videos etc but then it gets more complex and expensive and the HDDs are that common are they?

Can the camera plug into that adaptor?

From your answer I'm assuming that it does.
Assume nothing. Have you heard the saying that assuming something makes an ASS of U and ME?

Made it, big thanks

Hi Guys,

Inspired by this and another forum, I decided to do this mod - Audi OEM camera and the DLO Homedock with the Kufatec IMA+.
I have a U.S. Audi S4 B7 Sedan with Euro'd RNS-E.
The mod was not easy as this was my first to the Audi and spent a lot of time with trial and error, special thanks to Haagie for helping me out.

Here a few clarifications that might be helpful for others with S4

- Removing the trim on the right side of trunk: I wasn't able to remove it completely, didn't find a way to remove the bottom corner attached somewhere behind the rear seat but it did not need to come off completely anyway.
There is only one black button-type attachment on the top, pull the button out gently and pull out the holder. The chrome strap hooks need also come off (attached with 2 torxes). Rest of the hidden attachments tabs are best opened with a long screwdriver, the plastic holding the tabs breaks easily.

- Removing the trim on trunk lid: in the US model there is a second screw behind the fluorescent internal trunk opening latch. Pull the latch joint gently out of the cup to access the screw.
- You have to remove the license plate to pull the license plate light assembly out and it is still a bit tight fit
- The original DIY is about a U.K. car with steering wheel on the right. On a US car, route the wiring across the car through the wiring loom under the back seat. The wire is just long enough.
- I have a CD changer in the compartment that needed to be removed first
- I got a crappy set of stereo removal keys that did not lock in place (from ebay). The lock gap was like 2-3 mm too far. Eventually I was able to pull the cd changer out anyway.
- there were 9 screws holding the glovebox, not five. two below the box, three on to front, one on top of the cd changer, one right behind the cd changer and on on the back of the upper self. I was dead scared I'd blow the airbag.
- Once the glovebox was off, I was able to pull the RNS-E off by pushing from back and fiddling with the crappy keys.
- The instructions are not very clear where the wires from the RVC go. You need to open the Kufatec IMA AMP connector and insert the tabs to the connector
- The four white wires from the IMA AMP (can-h, can-l, masse, bauer-plus) needs to be cramped to the RNS-E Quad-lock. However, there are no instructions where to cramp the bauer-plus (power). With the help of this I decided to take power from the lead B4 of the quad lock.
- Powering the DLO Homedock requires an additional (standard automotive) relay, connect B4 to relay post 30, D13 to post 85, ground to 86 and Homedock power lead to 87.
- The quad lock connectors are: A is missing from my S4 (as it has Bose), B is the blue connector, C is the green and D is the Quad lock center vertical.
- remeber to setup the IMA+ by starting the car, going to TV, pressing 4 seconds [setup] and pressing it until RVC appear in the dash, then rotating to RV01

And yes, it was well worth it! The camera is excellent, even in very low light it is bright as day.

HW revision of RNS-E

In the Kufatec instructions for the IMA Multimedia adapter, it says: "The condition is you have to be in the CD/TV mode (Software 1.96/ Hardware 2.5). Hardware version 3.0 allows the automatic switch to the video source of the RVC by choosing the rear gear independent in which mode you are."

At what point of time did the HW-version change from 2.5 to 3.0, i.e. what model-year? Is it possible reference this to the Part-number revision-letter, e.g. 8P0 035 192Q?

AFAIK the Kufatec instructions refer to the revision of the IMA, not the RNS-E.

If I wanted to run the OEM camera with an aftermarket unit, is it safe to say that all I need is the audi parts and the 36136 - connection kit original rear view camera VAG to IMA to convert the other end to a RCA - video input to plug into the aftermarket head unit aux port?

Joshua
I have the same question..can it be done? VAG to IMA 36136 seems to have 4 wires:

black (video ground)
Yellow (video input)
Red (power)
Brown (ground)

Sounds like all I have to do is terminate an RCA connection using black and yellow pins, red pin should go to a power source and ground the brown pin.

Thanks!

Thanks to Issac Hunt for this mod, I have done it on the A3 Sportback with no problems, also have OEM TV tuner retrofitted, wired camera to AV switch which meant I kept TV tuner operational and means I can access the camera without having to engage reverse gear! Great spying tool too!

@Kennyken:

you connected the camera into the AV-entry of the original tv-tuner? Does the RNS-E automatically switch to the AV-entry when you engage the reverse gear? Also when the unit currently shows the map-screen or the radio-screen?

Thanks for your reply.

The camera is supposed to be wired directly to the RNS-E to support auto switching, but since the TV tuner uses the same connection, I had to wire it to one of the two AV inputs so no auto switching. All I have to do is press the media button and the camera is activated if it's the last thing I was looking at.

Hope this helps.

I did my install in 2008 & I admit I am rusty on what I did. As it turns out, I almost never use the DLO / ipod funtionality though I might start doing it more.

I am much more interested in the red/white audio wires. I dont recall if I needed them for the DLO, or if the DLO wire (KUFATEC GmbH - IMA Steuerleitung HomeDock Deluxe DLO individuell 36044) used it or not. I would like to plug it into my HTC EVO cell phone since I would get more usage out of it.

I am kind of curious if I can hook up my cell phone to the aux so I can listen to music on it. Of course, I cant think of a clean way of installing it.

Hi everyone!

I'm new to this particular forum, and I am just SO excited to have found this particular thread!! I have just purchased a 2008 A4 -- after having driven my '97 A4 since 2000 -- and my car has the Premium Package with the built-in nav, but the one thing missing is the backup camera feature.

I just found this thread minutes ago, so I have a lot of catching up and reading and studying to do here. Can I assume that all the information in here is still accurate and that I should still be able to do this? I would just be thrilled to have this modification to my car! While I'm quite handy, I would probably be fairly nervous ripping apart my new vehicle myself, so I may give this task to a local installer. Have others gone that route, or is this too easy a job that I should just undertake myself?

Anyway, any input _very_ much appreciated. In the meantime I have my home work cut out for me.

Thank you all SO MUCH for posting this :-D

Erik

These instructions are still valid but bear in mind they are for a right hand drive vehicle... They are fairly easy to follow but if you're not inclined to do this yourself then can ask someone else who knows what they are doing.

Hi,

I already install reverse camera on my old Audi A3 (2009) with Kufatec part (IMA Multimedia Adapter w/ Control - "Basic-Plus" and all connection kit for original overview camera), that was very good !

Now, I have a Audi A3 from 2012 with New OEM RNSE (i think 193)

Is it possible to retrofit OEM Audi reverse camera?

I saw that somebody tell that is not possible on 193 release, is it true? Why?

What must i purchase? (same item that i had installed on my old A3 or other item)

Best regards

IIRC the US firmware for the 2010+ RNS-E does not have the AV input enabled.
