I should add that coding for LED in vag com is probably nothing more than adding the DRL option is the MMI and telling the bulb out warning indicator not to expect a draw on the DRLs as they are LEDs.

That harness looks like it bypasses that, nothing more.

...I am sure simply hooking the LED to the sidelight and turning on DRL in the MMI would be enough...
With the Bi-Xenon headlights, the DRLs are not part of the sidelight circuit. Wiring LEDs to the sidelights and switching on DRLs in VCDS will not light the LEDs.

It's possible that a pre-facelift A6 with Bi-Xenons will run the LEDs as DRLs through the same circuit that currently runs the halogen DRLs. There is an option in VCDS to code the control unit with LED DRLs.

The control unit suggested earlier may only be required if you currently have halogen headlights.

Just guessing though. I'm sure someone far more knowledgeable than I will correct me.

Cheers
Dave

It can be done. Our colegues from Germany did it. The answer is simple. If you use the RS6 headlights and the bordnetz with the K version everything will work just fine. You can use your existing wiring , only some unpining will be done at the bordnetz. This weekend I would make the modification myself as my headlights have just arrived today. Prior to that you should go to an AUDI dealer and mount the bordnetz STG, because some CP will be activated.

Hello from Spain friends,
I am in the same situation
I want to install in my car the complete front facelift 2009
But I have doubts in the electric installation of the headlights.

And another great doubt that I have:

Do I have in my car headlights what a bi-xenon.
Should buy the empty bi-xenon facelift? (and to use the rest of pieces of my current bi-xenon, bulbs, starters, etc)

or should I buy the complete bi-xenon headlights facelift?

Tks ;)

I got a new Audi A4 headlight with LED today.. will get my used A6 headlight next week I think and then I will start playing with them.. For first I shall try to fit a A4 headlight into the A6 house.. next step if that wouldnt be goof I will take a couple of S5 headlight and try!
So soon I will have LED DRL in headlights :)
Got my S6 LED DRLs today to! So double up with LEDS would be nice!

SO I have instaled the headlights on saturday. It's recomended to install the RS6 headlights as it's much more easiear to adapt the electrical wiring. If you have AFS or not you can just order RS6 headlights with or without AFS. You just only need to order the headlight housing. The old afs and bixenon module , D2s bulb can also be used. You also need another lights ecu onboard supply, do some unpining , make a VDCS coding and voila you have it. If there is interest I can provide you the PN numbers required for the modification.
Not last for this modification we've got to thank to our colegues from GERMANY, the motor-talk users. They have provided very important info's and instructions so I think that it's right to give them all the credit. I'm just a messenger, I folled the instalation instructions and make them just a litle bit better. Till then I'll give some pictures with the beast.

Hi! What u mean with "lights ecu onboard supply" what u changed for that? And tell me wich pins please!.. then I guess no extra controller for dimming etc is needed?? right?

I now seen on the pictures that u didnt using ur halogen lamps now.. is it those pins u changed or something for LED instead? and LED is working with Xenon on to I saw.. nice! Give the pins layout and VCDS coding to please! Looks nice ;)

The car has been fantastic

Yes, please.
Explain to us like one makes (how-to) and the references of the pieces that you have used.
Tks, regards

PD: you could give me information (PM) of where you have gotten the headlights.

Sure I'll provide you with the info's you want. Again you should take it as it is a courtesy of Motor-talk Audi forumus. Give them credit for their terrific job.
First of all you need :

-2 headlight housings from RS6 with or without adaptive light (AFS) . I have AFS so for me they were numbered like this :
left side - 4F0 941 029 CM
right side - 4F0 941 030 CM

- a power module with software for onboard electrical sistem (bordnetz steurgerat) with the latest version - 4F0 910 279 K

You need to do some modifications to pins that are going into bordnetz via T10 and T32 couples. These are the install procedures (copyright of MotorTalk):

Left:

- At the gray connector T32c line black / red pin 4 separate

- On the black connector T10a line gray / white pin 6 separate

- Line from pin 6 connector T10a gray / white with black line / red line set from associate

- The pin T32c / 4 black / red is no longer needed

- On cable connector T10a white / black pin 8 separate

- Head of connector T10a Pin 8 white / black line with gray / white line sentence combining (PWM signal)

- The white line / black line in the record is no longer needed

Right:

- At the gray connector T32c line black / red Pin 15 separate

- On the black connector T10a red line / yellow Pin 1 separate

- Head of T10a pin connector 1 red / yellow line with black / red line set from associate

- The pin T32c/15 black / red is no longer needed

- On cable connector T10a green / blue pin 2 separate

- Head of T10a plug pin 2 green / blue with red line / yellow line sentence combining (PWM signal)

-- The green line / blue line in the record is no longer needed

After all that is done you need to do some coding with VCDS :
Module 09
Now only the fourth place in the wiring to "5" (S6/RS6) encode (xx5xxx) and should do just fine.

ohh that cable pin stuff was a little bit hard to understand.. but I think it would get better when having the cables around.. :)

Sorry to side-track but gasy, did you manage to get the 2009 facelift units working in your car ? ... I can't get hold of the RS6 headlamps easily to do the above method but I can get a 2009 set easily.

Can you confirm if the plug on the back of the headlamp is the same as the older ones, i.e. should it just be a straight swap + vagcom encoding?

Hello,

Can you confirm if the plug on the back of the headlamp is the same as the older ones, i.e. should it just be a straight swap + vagcom encoding?
According to my car (June 2005) and the new A6 FL headlight (4F0 941 003 CP) that I have bought, there is small PIN adaptation to do :
- the side light PIN ( number eight) of the new headlight has to be moved to PIN 10 (in replacement of one of the two Leds wires),
- on the new headlight, Leds have two wires. Both has to be pinned together on PIN 12, to have direct +12V,
- the rest, I think, is OK.

Now I will try to plug one tomorrow.

I will keep you inform.

Hello,

I have made a test yesterday with only one complete headlight for test:

Image

My conclusion : this retrofit is not so easy as expected!!!

What is OK now:
- the Leds are fine, and works well,
- the front indicator is OK,
- the xenon/low beam is OK,
- the parking beam is OK.

But:
- when I switch on the xenon + the parking beam, the LEDS DRL swith off (which is quite understandable),
- when I switch on the xenon, the parking beam is still ON.
The point is that there are two colors in the same time : the blue one due to xenon bulb, and a fade white one due to the parking bulb!!

How should I wire the headlight to solve this problem? Thanks.

Having not seen an A6 with factory-fitted bi-xenon I can't be sure but this was normal behavior on my VW Passat, the parking light (or side lights as they seem to be known here) remained on with the xenon beams.

How did you get the light itself to work as the plug wont fit as standard, did you use the Kufatec adapter?

I have two non-LED bi-xenon headlamps that i'm planning on putting into my A6 in place of the halogen lights but the connectors arent the same ](*,)

First, I have identified each function of all the wires coming from the car plug, and second, I have done the same thing for the new headlight plug (thanks to an external +12V battery).
Then, I have unppined some wires of the headlight to fit to the car plug.

Do you have a note of the which pin does which ? - It'd help any others looking to do this ... perhaps not me though since mine aren't the LED ones.

Did your car have Halogen headlights to start with or Xenons (without LEDs)

I have the original Bi-xenon headlights, with Adaptative Light.

For the change of pin, according to what I have measured, it have made:
- Pin 10 (one of the two Leds wire) welded with the second Leds wire, both on Pin 12. It gives the continuous +12V on Leds, and it is connected directly to the DRL,
- Pin 8 (parking beam) ----> Pin 10.
