Hi guys,

I`m trying to get OIL Meter start to work in my A6.
As for now I enabled Hidden menu, then from there enabled "OIL Level" in MMI.
Unfortunately, but it doesn't appear (even gray) in Car menu (near Battery level, which appeared after enabling).

Could someone please, who have working OIL Level meter in MMI 2G, share their MMI firmware version ?
Also, if it possible - please share your OIL sensor part Nr.

Thanks in advance.

Covered in great depth that no one has managed to get the oil meter to work in the A6/A8/Q7.

cebo0650:
u mean it is gray in "Hidden menu" or it is gray after enable on Car menu list ?
It's grayed out in the Car menu list.

Is it maybe because the US/Canada model cars don't have the sensor installed?
Reading some info on Polish A6 forums I was able to find out that the sensor is made by Hella. This is what it looks like.

I'll have a look tonight at home in ETKA 7 to see if I can find the location and Audi part number.

hmmm, I have younger car (end of 2007), but after enable in hidden menu, "OIL meter" does not appeared on Car menu list (even gray), however battery level appeared there and works great.

OIL sensor is installed in every car, maybe just slightly different, that`s why (I think so, but maybe am wrong) OIL level (and temperature) is working on one cars, and does not on other ones. It`s located on engine bottom in center of oil carter, u will need to take out front plastic cover/guard. It is well seen, then u change oil.

Also, could You please provide Your MMI FW number ? - mine is 4220 (MMI 2G).

Thanks in advance.

cebo0650, Thanks for info.
I saw here in forum, that there are latest 5570 fw for MMI 2G (for EU i think), so maybe it worth to try to upgrade to it and then try to chek, if it appeared or not.

craigyb
could You please advise - can I upgrade strait to 5570 from current 4220 or need to upgrade to some interim version (e.g.5150)?
also, maybe u know, is the 5570 the latest fw, or there are newer one ?

Upgrade all you want it will not work.

The correct upgrade is 4220 to 5150 and then to 5570

Hi craigyb,

thanks for suggestions, but I will better try and satisfy it`s not working, than will not give a try :)

I`v got 5150 and 5570 CD`s, so just one small question for You again - is it really worth to update at first to 5150 and only then to 5570 ?
o just strait to 5570 ?
is there are any benefits in that ?
or maybe caveats - like on more point of failure ?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. is there are any list, what is in 5150 update ?

Do you enjoy smashing your head against the same brick wall that other have already?

I'm 100% confident that if craigyb says it won't work, then it won't work.

Hi PetrolDave,

I`m not trying to smash my head - anyway I want to upgrade MMI, this will not (hopefully) broke anything.

From other side - if someone stating, that "something" will "not work 100%", please next time be so honest to post some proof at least, or explanations ?!

I know, it`s much more simpler just to say - u are stupid, because u are stupid, than explain, why so (even just in few words).

simple state - yes, I was upgraded to latest FW, yes, I was changed OIL sensor from A(XX), PN.YY - I could confirm, it`s not working.
very simple, but much explaining, that it will not work, because I say so...

regards.

P.S. do not forget, that there is still exist possibility to change some bricks of A5 and A6 FW (on CD`s) with each other, to enable some functions in MMI, which is not present.

There's been a LOT of discussion on this exact topic on here, so there is plenty of proof which you can already read - so why should I repeat it all over again?

The explanation? - the correct oil level sensor is not fitted to your car, so no amount of FW upgrading will make the oil level display work.

BTW it's NOT me saying it won't work, it's experts like craigyb (who has more experience upgrading and modifying MMI than anyone else I know).

Well, then it`s more strange to hear, that You advise me to read my own thread...
Because if You read, You will easily find, that I suppose to upgrade FW and then change OIL Level sensor to newest one, or same as on A5.
For sure, there could be other caveats, maybe some more wiring needed or etc.

but at least I do not saying - "it will not work 100%" without explanations.

regards and thanks for all help and advises provided.

How clear do I have to be... this is NOT the only thread on this subject.

TBH it's boring seeing the same debates over and over again, just because people do not use search.

As I said in my reply, plenty of people with A6/A8/Q7's tried to get the oil meter working, changing the sensor did not help. The A4/A5/Q5 sensor connects to a different ECU than the A6/A8/Q7.

Hi craigyb,

many thanks for excelent info!

I was able (by Your guide) update MMI first to 5150 and then to 5570.
OIL level appeared on MMI (gary as expected :)).

one more bad side effect - then inserted disk 2 from 5570, it throw out error: Missing HMI section in metainfo, it does that several times (reboot, read, error, reboot), pressed eject, put 3 cd in, updated fine to 5570 without probs.
try`ed same process from CD 2, again "Missing HMI...", again eject, CD 3, again update to 5570 fine...
Bloutooth preparation still works fine... Looks a bit strange...

Could You please advise, how to check, which ver. (and BT hopefully) i have now ?!
Via VAG-Com only or thru some menu on MMI ?

Thanks advance for help.
