XM Update, maybe a new module is not required on 05's

Hi Gang,

I have an interesting update, today one of the people I helped get their system, had their system professionally installed at Hillside Imports. Their car had the factory XM radio (2005 MY).

Copied is part of the email from Dan.

<<Funny thing on ....... the unit recognized the XM radio which I
thought was strange because I was always under the impression that navi cars came with E units for the XM tuners, and Concert II radios came with A XM tuners. But his seems to work just find when I enabled the Sat radio section when I was coding the unit.>>

So maybe some people after all will not need a new XM module after all

Well, the TSB about the 4 different SAT receivers suggests the same. It says use the old receivers until out of stock, then continue to use the new receivers. It could very well be that the new cars come by default with the new receivers. And besides Proxus nobody (including me) tried the old Symphony II with the new SAT receiver. Proxus said his didn't work (besides playing the audio from the last selected station). My old XM receiver was software 010, the new one is software 080. And there is also the small chance that his dealer installed some new software, available as part of a TSB we don't know about.

So, is your friend able to change the station and does he see the station info on the screen? Or does he simply hear the audio and didn't try to change the station? It would be interesting to know what part number his Symphony II and his XM tuner was.

Hey Folks,

I can verify what Steve just posted. I was the guy who had the unit installed by Hillside imports. I have an 05 allroad with XM and even though we didn't think the unit would work ( we didn't even try) I got up this morning and was playing with the functions/ features and there it was. XM Sattelite radion. Not a preview. I get all the stations along with call ID, Artist, Song name etc.

So far, all the feature work, although I have not figured out all of them or used all of them.

I bought my Unit from steve and if any of you are wondering...don't . The unit and transaction were smooth, professional and the product and extras arrived and worked as stated in the AD. Steve is a top notch guy and even though the units are "used" they are in GREAT condition...looks OEM in my month old allroad!

thanks for all the help and for this great forum. I would have NEVER had a RNS-E unit in my car a month after I bought it at a big $$ savings w/out this place 8)

cheers

  • AudiA4B6US,

I can't give you the part # for the XM as it is hidden away in the hatch and we were unable to see it w/out ripping stuff apart.

I can give you the # for the Symphony II. I have it here on my desk. If this is not the right # let me know...it says

    4B0 035 195 N

that is on the side...on the top it says US A6 and some other stuff along with that same # above written below a bar code.

I get all the INFO from XM on my screen. Catagory, station call letters, Artist, song title etc and all the stations show up as well as my XM SAT ID #

if you have any other questions...let me know

I can confirm that the my NEW Sirius receiver does in fact work with the Symphony II from my 04 S4.

At one point I sold my RNS-e and was without for a few days. In the meantime I had the Symphony II installed and everything worked fine with the Satellite radio.
Hi Jon,

Thanks for the very nice words! I'm trying to help folks out here.

It is getting harder and harder to find decent units especially of the right vintage so they can be upgraded to the right firmware.

Hope you continue to enjoy the car and system!

I just went down and plugged in my Symphony II and it worked just fine with the new XM receiver. This would mean that someone can indeed get the new SAT receiver first, use it with your SAT enabled Symphony (or Concert ?) II and then get the RNS-E later. This could also mean that many 2005 or newer Audis with XM or Sirius may already have the right SAT receiver installed.

I kept my old XM in case I would sell my Audi with the Symphony instead of the RNS-E. But now I can go ahead and sell the old receiver because the Symphony will work with the new XM. That's good news, at least for me.
