Re: I'm a bit confused

ok, sorry for the knuckle-head question, but can someone help interpret what will need?

I have a 06 A4 with the Bose Symphony II and XM. I plan to purchase a RNS-E and want to retain the XM satellite radio

My question:

Will my current XM reciever work with the RNS-E unit and which unit will i need to make the transitition easier - the latest US OEM or the EU unit flashed with US software (and which version software should i have)?

Thanks for your help in advance!
Silver

It may work but you'll need check your XM tuner for either of these two part numbers. Here you go:

8E0 035 593 E XM for RNS-E
8E0 057 593 E XM for RNS-E

Found this on ebay. It appears that they flashed another software version onto the "old" XM tuner to get it to work in new cars.

Any idea how this could be accomplished?
These are MMI receivers (part number starts with 4E0) and they will not work with the RNS-E. All the MMI devices can be software upgraded through CAN, not with a VAG-COM though - someone would need a VAS or similar to do that.

Do you think the XM/Sirius receivers use completely different hardware between MMI and RNS-E? I was just thinking out loud really, wondering whether the software from the (expensive) E receivers could be flashed onto an A receiver to "upgrade" it to E...

I'm pretty certain that the hw in the MMI receivers is different (because they do have the MOST connector) but the 1st and 2nd generation 8E0 receivers look hw wise pretty much the same. My 'A' receiver was hw 010 and my 'E' receiver is hw '080'. Since we have seen with the RNS-E that the hw version doesn't mean much, someone who knows EE could probably figure out what the storage chip is, read it out and flash it back.

Correct, the 8E0 receivers are not dealer upgradable. The 4E0 are. Same for the phone interface. The 4E0 interfaces are upgradable, so is are some 8P0 interfaces in a 8P or 8PA Audi with CAN.

Verification of XM in 2006 A4 (B7)

If anyone is interested, I checked the XM module in my new 2006 A4 (B7) and the XM module is part # 8E0 035 593 E.

Im not absolutely sure that it will work with the latest RNS-E unit, but from what i have been reading , it sounds like a good bet. Once I order my RNS-E, i'll give it a try and let you know.

thanks!

They started putting the new receivers in with the B7, maybe even very late B6. The 8E0 "D" and "E" definitely work with the RNS-E.

The difference, as I understand it, is that the non-Nav/TPMS satellite receivers can interfere with correct operation of the Nav and the active TPMS (which uses radio-transmitter sensors mounted to the wheels). The newer rev receivers have been updated so that they don't interfere with the Nav or TPMS.

We got the "F" tuner reported as new version a couple of days back but the guy who posted that did not come back yet to report whether or not it's working. Guessing I would say it will work fine in any car because it's just the successor of the "D" tuner and we already saw that the "D" tuner works with the Symphony II in the B7 and 8P.

Which XM Reciever for RNS-E with no tire pressure monitor?

So the numbers on my XM module need to be:

8E0 035 593 E XM for RNS-E
8E0 057 593 E XM for RNS-E

My A4 does not have tire pressure monitoring. Will either of the above work or do I need to definitely get one or the other?

Thanks for the help.

Both will work, just make sure you get one with index "E".

If you have a VAG-COM, just check #0F and see the part number there.

Can anyone tell me if a module 8E0 035 593 E will work with a 2005 A6 with nav and bose but no TPMS?
Is this the new C6 model with MMI? If it is then all the 8E0 receivers will not work. You are looking for an 4E0 or 4F0 receiver.
