Hi,

I just bought a Navigation Setup for my 99.5 A4. It is the type where the CD Drive is located in the trunk and is a D-Nav Unit. Will VW Touareg disks work without any modification? Is there a specific Touareg disk I should look at getting?

Thanks!

TeddyBGame,

Thanks for the information. I'm not sure if I understand correctly from the quicklink. Do I have to modify the disks, or do I put the disk in and start navigating? Sorry for the newbie questions. I just want to make sure I know what I'm getting into. I already have to install a Can-Bus adapter and wiring harness to make my Concert II and Navigation unit work in my non Can-Bus car.

Thanks again,

Scott

scott,
if you have a 99.5 B5 A4..with the factory Nav drive in the trunk...then I doubt you have a D-Navi. I am 99% sure you have a C-navi. Eject the current disk and take a look.

With that said, the t-reg disks are D-navi and won't work.

Search on ebay for C-navi disks (hard to find)...as the latest release was 1/04. You can always purchase one from navteq.com for about $100/each.

Also, in your car, you won't need to modify the disks.

Good luck!

Actually the navigation unit I have has not been installed yet and I'm certain it's a D-Nav system. It came out of a later model S4. I have a little bit of a project ahead of me because this nav unit requires Can-Bus as well as my Concert II cd player. The adapter I bought will work for both the nav system and the cd player, but I will have to route a wiring harness back to the trunk area and to the controller.

So considering I have a D-Nav unit, the Touareg Disks will work without any mods? If thats the case, then I'm in a good mood today. The Touareg disks sell a lot cheaper on ebay than the Audi or Navtech ones.

Regards,

Scott

ok. I'm not sure what part of the country that you are in....or if you are in North America. Either way, it sounds like you will be installing the US-based nav drive...and not a Euro Nav+ (obviously), so there is no need for you to modify the VW T-reg D-navi disks.

My apologies for the confusion, we don't really get a lot of people who want to add just the drive unit...rather than the front head unit with the map display.

In the future, it always helps us if you post what year/make/model audi you have; what is installed and what you want to install -- so we can give you the best response possible.

Good luck!
