Took advantage of the current discount on XM and Sirius tuners and ordered a Sirius tuner from Clair Parts. I was disappointed as I opened the shipping box and saw that the box the tuner was packed in was clearely opened and re-taped. The label on the tuner box showed the part number as 8E0 057 593D. When I opened the box, the label on the tuner itself said it was part number 8E0 035 593D.

Obviously, I will be calling Clair Parts about this tomorrow (to be honest, I expected better from them). But in the meantime, I was wondering just what Sirius tuner they sent me. The 8E0 signifies the B6 A4/S4...and the 593D seems right. But what is the 035? Just curious.

They are supposed to be identical. There was one thread on AudiWorld where someone ordered the 057 and got the 035. After some questioning he was told they are the same but the 035 is less expensive (for what reason ever). And the 035 worked fine in his A3.

Sirius Install Problem

Maybe if you have some time, you can try your 035 receiver with your Symphony II (if you had a Symphony II with SAT button). There is still the open question if there is sat receiver which works with both the Symphony and the RNS-E. Proxus did test his 057 XM receiver and it didn't work with his 2003 Symphony, I haven't tried my 057 XM with my 2004 yet. Maybe the 035 receiver works with both?

I would be willing to do some experimenting (I have an RNS-E)...but the problem is that my schedule (travelling for business) won't give me access to my car for anywhere from the next week to the next month. I bough the unit now because I didn't know when that special pricing would end. I'm afraid that if I wait a month and it doesn't work...then Clair Parts might tell me that I'm out of luck. But I will call them tomorrow and see what they say.

Even if the 035 is identical to the 057, it still kinda bothers me that the box was opened and resealed. I guess, though, that may have been necessary so they could get the receiver ID number (it does appear on my invoice and it's not on the outside of the box...so the only way to get it is to open it up).

Made my call to Clair Parts today. According to them, the Sirius tuner I was sent (which was labeled as 8E0 035 593D on the tuner) is, in fact, an 8E0 057 593D tuner...but they were mislabeled by Audi. The reason my box was opened was so they could record all of the serial numbers. So, I have my fingers crossed that everything will work out fine.
