what program do you use to burn the modified US disc?

im pretty computer savy, and made all the changes to the US disc, however have not been able to make a copy that works in my EU unit. I checked all the changes a few times and they were all right, so i'm guessing its the program. What programs have you guys burnt a successful usable disc with? and i also read about bit rate being discussed.. so is that also an issue when burning these discs? thanks guys

my friend try to make a back-up for me using NERO 6.6.. and i would get "IMPROPERLY LOADED".. we tried several times and usually got the same error.. then he updated the firmware on his burner and it is working fine now.. note: the firmware was not an official release, he found it somewhere else..

now i have a new laptop and got a DL burner.. i also bought NERO 6.6.. i was experimenting last night and the back-up i made says "0020 SOFTWARE UPDATE CD/DVD".. which i believe means something went wrong when burning the large *.KWI navi file??..

the dell website does not have any updates for my Sony DW-D56A slim 8x DVD+/-RW burner.. i guess i need to start searching around..

any suggestions??..

BTW :: why are you modifying your US DVD when you could make and EU->US update disc, load the US software on your EU unit, and use an unmodified US DVD and have full US functionality??.. there are a few benefits of keeping the EU software, but overall it is best to use the US software..

cant even get the software update software to work to change from EU firmware to a US.. followed dirk' directions but i get the same "update cd/dvd" when i put it in and it does nothing. It would really appreciated if someone could send me the modded file because i know they are pretty small.. PM me if you could email or send it over instant messanger.... thanks
the link gave me this::

it seems as though i need to log in.. i have been to the US dell site and try to update my firmware, but it says that my drive is already up to date..

some forums say that there is other firmware available on sony's site, but it is not approved my dell..

when my friend had to update his drive with unofficial firmware.. i have been searching and have found some stuff, but not sure yet -- need to do more research..

thanks..

What sw version do you have on your Euro unit?
ok, the file is the following: R104295.EXE, 699 KB, but I think you already have this...
ah yes.. very good point.. if he has 330 or 360 the EU->US update disc will not do anything..

always thinking one step ahead of us..

any ideas on my issue??.. is it true that if a back-up copy shows up as a software update CD/DVD something got messed up with the Navi data??.. i am just making an exact copy with the same software as my friend.. i guess it must be the drive??..
R104295.EXE, 699 KB
i just double checked the US dell site and yes that is what i have..

i was checking out these sites, but dont know if they are what i am looking for.. i need to check sony's site..

thanks again..
Fritzner: the sites (and mine) are the sites you need. This is not the official firmware, but self made firmware to make your burner region free or enable the possibilty to burn a DL disc in DVD-ROM format (not always the case by official firmware). You can use this firmware, but it's always on your own risk. I have good experience with the 'hacked' firmware on this sites, but it depends on the brand/the firmware etc..
discussion continued off line.. i will post when i get it working..

i which i had the NEC 6500A drive, that is the one my friend has..
i got version 360... update disc won't do anything?

i have the real US disc also, and as of right now i don't have navigation working because i cant get the modded US disc to burn correctly or the unit to take the US firmware upgrade.. let me know what you guys think is the best route to take
The flash described here on this forum won't work with units running Euro software 0330 or 0360. It may be possible to hack something together but so far nobody reported being successful with Euro "D" units (those are running 0360 by default). You may be able to check the files on a 2005_2 Euro DVD and try to increase the version numbers used in that software but the flash will only work with units runnign Euro 0140 or older.
Also make sure bitsetting is set to DVD ROM
the modified US DVD will also not work with 330 or 360..

options::
-1- create your own hack, pretty tough..
-2- wait for the new US DVD, but it is unlikely it will help at all..

i think your best option is
-3- sell it to someone in europe and get one with software 140 or less (or a US unit)
or better yet
-4- exchange with someone from this site who lives in europe

good luck..

well i tried DVD decrypter as some suggested and i still got "software update CD/DVD 0020"

any ideas why does it not recognize it as the nav DVD when it says "successfully completed".. the DVD looks exactly the same in the laptop, and the RNS-E can see that it is software 0020, but not the Nav DVD?!?!?!?.. crap!!..

i have tried 2 different software packages and 2 different types of media EACH of which have work for other (interchangeably).. so i guess it must be my burner..

i found this site for firmwares:
http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html#cat_slimdvdrw

The latest Dell-sanctioned firmware for my drive (Sony DW-D56A) is PDS7 -- which i have.. The latest D56A firmware (Sony-sanctioned, but not Dell-sanctioned) is PFS3.. it says PFS3 is newer than PDF7, but the date does not reflect that.. any thoughts..

• PDS3/PDS6/PDS7 - stock (2005/07/01) (Dell OEM)
• PFS1/PFS2/PFS3 - stock (2005/05/27) (Vaio OEM) (newer than PDS7)

i guess i will try PFS3..

BTW the Sony DW-D56A is based on the LiteOn SOSW-852S..

thanks..
