you want the Fakra GPS/blue (or universal color/code) female to Fakra female. 6 meters should be enough.

Here are some sources online that I've purchased from:

1) Vagparts.com
Link: (hint: go to product overview, then SAT nav parts, then aerial extension leads)
https://sslrelay.com/s74326199.onea...nid=1543c6ace8325f8/shopdata/index.shopscript

They have 1M to 5M lengths of the univeral code fakra (which will work with the GPS no problem).

2) ebay.de (search under FAKRA)

good luck!

technically, it will work because the gold tip has the SMB (male, I think)...it just doesnt have the fakra plactic connector...sooooooo...yes, you could use it...but you might end up dealing with a lost signal if the gold tip comes out of the connector.

FYI - All of these cables between the OEM roof fin and SAT tuner...and RNS-E use an SMB tip (male and female) with RG-174 mini coax cable. The only difference is the FAKRA connector type. Therefore, it is always best to get one with a female-to-female Fakra tip (blue for GPS).

There are a few brands of FAKRA connectors; Ampheronyl (sp) is one of them that seems to work with most audi components. Some of this is well documented in Lee's pdfs (via www.nsxjr.com).

I have also discovered that some of these cables can be ordered via VAG parts or 1stvwparts.com (see below). VAG parts etc, sells these cables with the FAKRA neutral/universal code/color (it's actually greenish-blue in color). The neutral/universal coding means that the fakra female tip will work with any fakra male (any color, any brand of fakra). Make sense?

2 Meter aerial extension leads (fakra female to fakra female) (via VAGparts.com)
Order number: 2M-ext
18.27 USD each

I ordered 2x of the 2M and 1x of the 1M. Vagparts sells the
2M universal Fakra: Audi part#: 000-098-653 ($16 each)
1M universal Fakra: Audi part#: 000-098-652 ($16 each)

I haven't ordered the 5M length from Vagparts yet...so I don't know what the VAG part# is. I only needed the 2M length to connect my
(I checked on www.1stvwparts.com, and both are available to order. Cool!)

Again, if you go to ebay.de and search on "FAKRA" you will get a whole list of auctions to buy from. Here's what my search drummed up:

http://search.ebay.de/search/search...de/ws/&fkr=1&from=R8&satitle=fakra&category0=

I am collecting a bunch of information on how to wire-up the OEM submarine fin as we speak...so stay tuned.

In Summary

1) Blue FAKRA = GPS:
Purchase either 5M or 6M female-to-female Fakra to connect your OEM sharkfin/submarine to your RNS-E. You can use a univeral/neutral code as well.
Source: You can get these from ebay.de, kufatec or vagparts (see above)

2) Red/Pink FAKRA = GSM/Cellphone/Onstar/Telematics:
Depending on whether you want to connect this to a cellphone kit etc, the cables that are sold on ebay have a female fakra tip to a FME connector. For some that want to retain Onstar, you will need to do more research to find the right cable length, audi part# and connection method; this isn't an area that I haven't really explored because there aren't a lot of people doing this type of mod WITH Onstar. You can use a univeral/neutral code fakra as opposed to the red/pink as well.
Source: You can get these from ebay.de, kufatec or vagparts (see above)

3) SAT tuner - XM or Sirius (white FAKRA for Satellite signal):
For this cable, I will just use the 2M neutral/universal code part# from vagparts (see above) and mark the greenish fakra female connector as "white". Audi probably has a part# for the white fakra female-to-female cable between the OEM roof fin and SAT tuner...I just haven't found it yet.
Source: vagparts, 1stvwparts.com (cost is about $16-$20 each)

4) SAT tuner - XM or Sirius (black FAKRA for Terrestrial signal):
For this cable, I will just use the 2M neutral/universal code part# from vagparts (see above) and mark the greenish fakra female connector as "black". Audi probably has a part# for the black fakra female-to-female cable between the OEM roof fin and SAT tuner...I just haven't found it yet.
Source: vagparts, 1stvwparts.com (cost is about $16-$20 each)

Ok. I have pretty much given you all the research that I have collected in the past two weeks. Good luck!

Ted thanks so much that was super helpful.

What length do you suggest I need for wiring the RNS-E to the roof, i don't think 2M is enough..

see above...again. I said either 5 or 6M. Good luck!
ok....the folks at vagparts.com were nice enough to send me the part# for the other sizes for the universal/neutral code fakra (female-to-female) wiring harness (also available in your ETKA database - Thanks Lee)!

Recap:
1M = 000-098-652
2M = 000-098-653
3M = 000-098-654
4M = 000-098-655
5M = 000-098-656
6M = 000-098-657
7M = 000-098-658

US-based source: https://www.1stvwparts.com/part_number.html
Cost: $16-$25
Usage:
1) Connecting oem submarine fin (blue male fakra) directly to RNS-E
2) Connecting SAT tuner (if you decide to locate it in the front dash or glovebox area)
3) could be used for connecting up some of the telematics/onstar/cellphone equipment. However, I believe you will need a Fakra-to-FME connector/cable (see thread above).

Other thoughts:
While the 5M (15 feet) may seem like a lot of cable, you'd be surprised at how quickly that length disappears when you start routing it through the car. I would assume that 5M might be enough for a sedan...but you probably want a 6M length.

Using these neutral coded fakra cables will really simplify your installation.

Enjoy!

Instructions on how to get to the sharkfin?

Does anyone have instructions on how to get to the sharkfin and run the cable?
it depends on your car. Can you give us the year/model that you have....pllllllleeeeeeeeeeease???

You should also check the various install links via quicklinks. Lots of details for the C5 and B6 cars. Happy reading!!!

Hello,

I've also ripped out the rear part of the headliner of my 07 A4 Avant and also couldn't find the blue connector.

I think our antenna is just for mobile purposes, but i'll wait for some expert to talk about this.

Greetings,
J.
Only US (and lately Canadian) Audi models always get GPS/GSM/SAT in the shark fin. In Europe (and likely the rest of the world as well) you only have GPS if you get a navi factory installed

And if you don't order either sat nav or a phone you don't even get the shark fin at all.
OK. Case closed. :lol:

Over and out! :wink:
HELP

I have a late model (2007) US spec Audi A4 Avant Sline Quattro. I do not have either NAV or SAT from the factory, but contrary to what is above I do still have a shark fin. Still I see no blue GPS connector...again is this possible or is it in another location?
If you have the shark fin your car is SAT ready and your antenna should support GPS (based on everything that ha sbeen posted so far). However, I can't remember ever seen a posting from an Avant owner, the location where the cable ends may be different.

The answer why is in your question!

You have a US spec car, what is said above about the sharkfin only being fitted when phone or sat nav is ordered relates to European models...

Why the difference? So that the SAT radio pre-kit can be fitted! It needs the sharkfin because that's where the XM/Sirius antenna is!
In my 2008 A4, the 3 (black / blue / pink) antenna leads connect to the car under the rear headliner. Where do those wires go? I'm thinking about an RNS-E install for my SymII+ no bose. Do you need an extension?
