Part number 8P0 919 884 E is the 2005_1 release of the European software/map DVD and includes the 2005 Europe map as well as software version 0330 for the European RNS-E.

There is alsow a 2005 DVD, part number 8P0 919 884 C (sw 0100). Please note that devices updated to software version 0330 cannot read the DVDs part number 8P0 919 884/B/C anymore.

The last EU DVD release is actually 8P0 919 884 H, known as 2005_2.

I've got one of these on factory back order from my Audi dealer here in the UK - price GBP 390, and there's some on eBay too.

2005_1 and 2005_2 come with new software with makes it impossible to use a backup DVD. Once you use 2005_1 or 2005_2 you will need to keep the original DVD in your drive or you won't be able to navigate. 2005_1 has sw 0330 and 2005_2 has sw 0360, there's is also supposed to be an updated map on 2005_2.

Beginning with 0300 the support for the OEM phone interface has significantly improved if you have a phone interface with the index "C". No other improvements/changes have been reported so far.

Just on this it's been noted in other posts that the Engineering Mode has slight differences with SW 0330 + (such as a Coding Menu where you can see the VagCom coding for the RNS-E).

This is clearly a newbie question but I just took delivery of an 06 S4 with old firmware (SW 0040). If I purchase an updated map DVD will the firmware and software be automatically updated or is this something that a dealer or someone with VAG-COM needs to do? Thanks in advance.

Just go to your dealer (or someone else with the new DVD), insert it and let it update the software. In the US you can continue to use your old DVD with the 0110 software. Once Audi/navteq releases a new DVD (probably at the end of the year), get the new one to get updated map data.
