Maybe anyone can help me,

I've got a Audi a4 latest model (i believe B7) just 4 weeks old.
I've got a RNS-E MMI installation, with a multifunctional steering wheel.

When i use the voice command button on the steering wheel, i can give voice commands, but only for the telephone. The User manual says that i can use voice control for Radio, CD, Address book, Phone and navigation.
So again, only the Phone function works.

When i received the car, it did not do anything with voice command. The Dealer enabled the voice option (Computer attached to the car).


The Audi dealer does not know how to solve this problem. He already contacted the PON (import office) technical service. They say that the MMI has no voice function. I believe they don't know how to do it, and try to get rid of me

Does anyone has a idea?

With SDS you should be able to control the radio and some other things via voice as well. According to the data you provided your car should have SDS. Maybe one of the European guys can help here since we don't have this luxury in the US...

Do You know the partnumber of your RNS-E? If it is 8E0 035 192 H you have the Voicecontrol. The letter H ist important. If you got a a C or D, you wont find any voice control (SprachBedienSystem).

Hi,

did you get the above data on the setup screen of RNS-E or with some other method ?

If you got it on the Setup Screen, I strongly believe you have a 8E0 035 192H unit which IS (or at least SHOULD BE as nobody here saw one yet) capable of voice commands for other function such as Radio, CD and NAV.

It would be great if you could provide us with information about the modules present at address 57 and eventually 77 (if you have the chance either using the VAS instrument or the VAG-COM).

Anyway, for a faster reply, looking at the label present inside your maintenance book you should find one of the following codes:

QH0 = This means the car is equipped with an RNS-E with no Voice Control (beside the phone part).
QH1 = This means the car is equipped with an RNS-E with complete Voice Control.

My sensation is you'll find QH1... ;-)

Mutze: I do not know my part number, unfortunately I do not have the extraction tool. The strange thing is that I have voice control but only for the phone functions.


Mickeymix: I got the data from the display in engineering mode. I do not (yet) have the possibility to use VAG-COM.

I will try to get a OBD connector for the laptop, and the correct version of VAG com, and I will look in the maintenance book.

I don't think you will be able to talk to most if the modules you have in your car with cables not using CAN bus...

But anyway, if it's not something you're going to do very often, I think that the VAG-COM cable could be something not really necessary...

I only thought you could have it or maybe you could access the system of a dealer and have it checked by them...

All of the above can be quickly solved looking at the label you can find in the maintenance log-book or on the same sticked which should be present on the side of the spare wheel under the trunk... They will report which kind of equipment is present in your car...

If you don't want to publish it, I have pmail available...

BTW: if your RNS-E has SDS and you don't want it, I have mine available for you: we could exchange them !!! 8)

There is no label in the maintenance logboek. But Haaggie is going to send me extraction tools, so i can look on the RNS-E for labels.

And about the cable.. it is always handy to have it.. also for playing with the RNS-E..

This is somewhat strange. Have you tried looking where the spare tire is located ? The second label (each car comes out of the factory with those two stickers) should be there...

This is quite important for me: it would give me some confirmations I'm still trying to get, but I have never been able to find anyone with an "H" unit till now...

If you could check, it would be great for me (and possibly other forum users...).

And about the cable.. it is always handy to have it.. also for playing with the RNS-E..

I'm pretty happy with this... I just wanted to point out that the VAG-COM cable is not something NECESSARY to use an RNS-E.

But if you're here, there are good chances a VAG-COM is something you will like to play with...

Actually I experienced exactly the same problem on my A4 Avant manufactured this month with RNS-E). I collected the car in Ingolstadt where the voice control was not operating at all. I had to have this activated at the dealer in Holland, so they told me. Thought this had something to do with the language. So last week I went to Audi to activate the system. The dealer confirmed that not only the phone, but also radio and navi could be controlled with SDS. But only with German commands! However the "only" change is that one can attach speech labels to telephone numbers in the phonebook. The commands outlined in the manual do not work. I'm curious if you made any progress. I checked the RNS-E also in engineering mode today. I have basically the same version information as Willemco. I believe it's not so much of a question if there is SDS in our car but more how we can have it activated. In my opinion the SDS software is loaded since, as can be seen through the engineering mode, version information is indicated. According to the manual in the settings screen (the red screen called by pushing setup and then settings) there should be a line (4-th from top) "Sprachdialogsystem" where one should be able to set the SDS settings (language etc). In my RNS-E this line is missing.
Anyone any ideas how to activate SDS?

I had the partnumber of the headunit checked with Audi.
It is 8E0 035 192 D which means I have RNS-E without SDS. The voice control over the telephone system is now fully enabled (English language) which is actually very nice. Unfortunately no voice control over the radio and cd / mp3 player since this would require RNS-E partnumber 8E0 035 192 H. I'm under the impression that this latter feature is not as yet made available in the A4 on the Dutch market, since it is not indicated as an option one can select (it is available in Germany however at additional cost).
Note: I was told by the dealer who enabled the voice control on the telephone system (in close communication with the importer PON) that this was the first time they had made this feature work in a A4 ...

What detail do you want?
In my case, as described, the system was recoded by means of the VAG computer by Audi. Are you able to change the codes yourself?
