I am looking to upgrade a b5 s4. I have read I should use a 4B0 035 192 P unit. Will this unit have voice command or able to use the oem blue tooth module?

Thanks,
Damon

I don't want to interfere with craigyb statement, but...

What about using an 8E0 035 192 H RNS-E instead ? Is it maybe a matter of fitting in that car ? I don't know, but this latter unit could have voice control for other functions too...

Also, voice commands for the phone are based on the phone interface, not on the RNS-E...

I have an A2 with phone voice commands, but the Radio is a Symphony II... (the unit was not coded to accept voice commands from the factory, but they were just "sleeping" there...).

Just my 2 cents.

model h vrs p

I think the P model fits best with some modification into the old style B5 S4. I am not sure how well the H model would fit or if this would create some other technical interface problems.

I would be interested to know if swapping face plates is a solution to using the H model? If so why not use the latest F model with a p style faceplate?

Has anyone been able to purchase the faceplate only?

Thanks

I think interface (harnesses) are all the same for RNS-E, beside CAN-BUS and GALA connections (which I suppose work on different pins, anyone can confirm this ?)

Faceplates change is something which has already been discussed within this forum, but I think few persons were able to get just faceplates (if not getting them from spare units).

Seems a very tricky way to get to the point. Also has to be considered the availability of CAN-BUS or not and I think it is not present in your car.

Maybe then a 4B0 unit is the only choice if you don't want to bother with adding a CAN-BUS emulator (or changing the instrument cluster).

Anyone giving confirmation on this ? AudiA4B6US ?

Lets just clarify

The 4B0 does not support voice commands
The phone module does support voice commands
The phone module requires a cluster with CAN to work.

The 8E0 rev H supports voice commands and will not fit very well into the B5, it's a physical thing

Change the 8E0 rev H to a 4B0 faceplate and you will have a better fit, but then you need a canbus compatible MFSW to initiate voice commands on the RNS-E.

The phone module will support voice commands only with a cradle if no MFSW is available.

This is something I was not aware of, but it's perfectly undestandable.
Correct, and thank you for clarification.

Again, thank you for fitting information.
I've never seen no 8E0 units, so I was not sure of this.

And again thank you, because, yes, the problem with retrofitting such units is only on where to activate the voice control from: the steering wheel (MF) or the cradle (if available).

I think such information should be placed in a FAQ. AudiA4B6US ?

Thank you for your appreciated help.

hi all

thanks again craig for wheel

I am attempting right now to integrate new phone module and MFSW (they controls only - in fact just the voice button). AFter talking with Lee and going through pinouts actually seems quite easy to do: control module simplay requires can which it gets when you install RNSe and run wires to cluster AND single wire from steering wheel buttons to control unit.

anyways i will post if it works but if it does you only need contorl module and steering wheel with buttons (looking into newer 4-spoke models with controls in wheel not airbag as much easier and cheaper to get - again you just need the button and the contorl unit in the steering wheel itself).

wich me luck
b5s4 canbus?

I thought the B5 S4 does have can bus?
