Video in motion without Dietz 1280?

There's a post on AZ about being able to get VIM without a Dietz 1280. Supposedly you can run a Gala wire from the ABS line in the foot panel on left side by the dead pedal to the system. Just wondering if I it works and why no one else has done it instead of the Dietz 1280 adaptor. Saves a little cash and also seems like there is no need for a switch. Like the Dietz.

i guess it depends on what year/model audi you have. The 1280 is used mostly for B6/B7's who have a speed signal that is in the CANbus.

You should change your signature to include the year/model info for your Audi...and the RNS-E "stuff" that is installed. This will make it easier for us to answer your question.

RNS-E's coded for an A6 use a separate speed wire - for them inserting a switch in the GALA (speed) line gives VIM.

As Teddy says for those using an RNS-E coded for an A3 or A4 the speed signal is carried on the CAN bus, so the Dietz 1280 is the only way to get VIM.
German Driver, said this was possible on Audizine. Maybe he was wrong. He says it goes to the ABS wire though. and then recode it just like the A6.

ABS wire is a misnomer. The ABS system uses the speed signal from the cluster as well, that is why some call this the ABS wire. It is officially the speedometer output from the cluster and has nothing more to do with the ABS system.
