Assuming the RNS-E powers up and the radio etc works...

Sounds like your K-line isn't connected through the adapter - which is the line that VAG-COM uses to "talk to" the RNS-E.

Check there is a wire in the adapter going from pin B5 of the RNS-E to connector III pin 3.

Since you don't have Bose, it should be set in the range 0..5 depending on how strong you want the GALA (speed dependent volume) effect to be.

I'd suggest setting it to the mid-point at first i.e. 3 - and adjusting it using the RNS-E controls from there to get the effect you want.

You don't want Transport Mode active - that puts the RNS-E into a "deep sleep" mode - so set it to 0.

Thank you :D

I see you have bluetooth enabled.
Did you retro fit this yourself and was the install difficult.
Do you have SDS enabled on your system, could this be done on my spec. :?:

I got the kit from Craigyb - twice! Once for my S4 and again for my RS4.

The first time it took me about 3 hours to install because I wasn't sure how the trim came off, but the second time I did it in less than an hour. It's certainly not difficult, especially with a retrofitted RNS-E because the wiring is then plug-and-play. The BT module goes behind the glovebox and the microphone in the OE location in the roof light.

I've got as far as getting the SDS to work from Engineering Mode and I've got the parts to emulate the PTT button (I haven't got an MFSW since I don't want to give up the RS4 steering wheel), but it's been too wet and cold to get outside to fit them!

The only sure way to get SDS working is with an H version of the RNS-E - although Craigyb has seen some other versions show the SDS menus.

Not quite sure what you have - your signature appears to mention two cars and one RNS-E?

kee

i have the 8P0 035 192 A that also supports SDS and is full functional with the MFSW at the moment. still have the little airbag light problem... but we are already solving it. with some tests.

you can see in your enginering mode if you have SDS in your unit.

I also have the RNS-E 'A' version but this one has no SDS functionality, I also have the MFSW.

No SDS here!

I'm afraid that you don't have SDS!

Try this .... (if it works you have SDS, if it doesn't YOU DON'T).

Go into Engineering Mode

Navigate to the SDS page

Click on this button "SK is used as PTT"

Exit Engineering Mode

Now press the Skip Left (Previous Track) button on your RNS-E, it should beep and respond to voice commands IF you have SDS and the microphone connected to your RNS-E. If you don't hear a beep - then you don't have SDS.

This works on my A4 H unit (which does have SDS).

The voice commands is a very limited subset, e.g. you can select CD but not SD/MP3.
