Who knows if one of the US units that Powertony sells could be modified with a faceplate from a Euro unit, 4B0 035 192 P, and fit in a 2003 A-6?
I have a Euro unit that I'm not very happy with, but could scavenge the faceplate from it to put on a US unit if it would work in the car.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

faceplates are not easily changeable (like the older CD-based Nav+ was).. i would not recommend it..

you would be better off just waiting for an A6 unit to be available..

And the A4 unit wouldn't work in an A6 anyway. A6 requires 4B0 RNS-E with a dedicated speed wire, the A4 units have only speed over CAN...

Hi there..

Very smart you listened to my advise to ask the people over here!
As far as my information goes; the A4 and A6 unit has the same hardware. It's only a matter of coding whether the Navi expects the speed signal over the canbus or -Gala Pin-.

Again: I'm not 100% sure.

To swap the faceplates is really easy. I had to swap a broken DVD drive and it cost me about 10 minutes.. It's really easy.

So the last question remains: Is it a problem to use an A4 Headunit the A6.. I'm 99% not. You can still use the Gala pin. You only need a cable harness with the right connections..

Unfortunately I do not have an Audi A6 in my backyard to test it out.. :)

It has been confirmed several times that the 8E0, 8H0 and 8P0 units do not accept a speed signal on the v wire. You can program a 4B0 unit to accept speed over CAN (Craig did this in his S8) but not the other way around. And there is no glossy black RNS-E faceplate either which would be a perfect match in the pre-facelift A6 and B5.

Since the 4B0 unit is the best fit for the A6 C5 and the A4 B5, there is no need to swap faceplates.

Just my 2 cents...
