First of all I want to thank everybody on this forum for finding out how to retrofit the BT phone kit. I have just successfully installed it in my 2004 S4. I would like to contribute myself, so here it comes:

Here is how to take screenshots from your RNS-E

1. Insert a SD card with enough space in slot 1. Every screenshot is 275kB.

2. Enter Engineering mode

3. Enter the "General" menu.

4. Press the "Screen shot mode" button. It will be highlighted and stay that way until you press it again.

5. Go to the screen of your choice. You can take screenshots of the menus in "Engineering mode". To exit "Engineering mode" just press the "Return" button until you leave "Engineering mode".

6. When the RNS-E is displaying the screen you want to make a screenshot of, press and hold the >| (Next track) button on the upper right corner of the RNS-E until the screen goes black (approx 6 seconds).

7. Now the RNS-E have created a screenshot in bmp-format on the SD-card in slot 1 in a folder named "SCR_Shot". The name of the file is the date and time of the screenshot e.g. "20060119190029.bmp".

8. Don't forget to disable "Screen shot mode", otherwise you won't be able to use the "Next Track" button.

Examples of screenshots:

Have fun!

Great find
awesome. I see how this works with my TV tuner (ME3). Good stuff!

Also useful if you want to take an image of the map display for your route (similar to what mapquest does). Good to know that our handy-dandy RNS-E units have some extra processing power to take images.

Maybe I'll add a camera input to my ME3 and use the RNS-E to snap pix of people and audi's on my daily commute.

.....the use cases for the this feature are endless.... !!! Ha!!
Hot TIP!! I think this unit has a lot more

untold secrets that will soon be reveiled.
that is very cool indeed

great find..

thanks so much for sharing..
nice! did you install the bluetooth like proxus did? i see you have the changer, so did you put it in the glovebox next to the changer?

Yes, for now it is installed in the glovebox. I just made two small holes in the back that the cable and antenna could fit through.

I am however planning to fit it under the passenger seat.

Yes, it will tell you about trafficjams, roadworks and such. Even the voice guidence warns you about all those stuff by saying "Caution, slippery road ahead".
In Holland they even use TMC to warn you of speed camera locations.
Great find. I love how they put a screen shot mode in, but for the radio they can't put the RDS and SAT info on the memory window of radio.

Press left MMI button 5-7 sec, then right MMI button until it changes...
Upper or lower MMI buttons? Or both? And do you let go of the left button when you press the right or keep holding it down?
1. Push "Nav" button
2. Push and hold upper left button for count of at least 5
3. Release
4. Push and hold upper right button until screen changes or your finger gets tired in which case, go back to step 1. :p
