Having successfully installed an RNS-E into a 2002 S8, I have a couple of issues that I would like to get sorted.

1. No routing information in the DIS, I get radio/cd/mp3 track info
etc. But no directions the screen is just blank. The code in VAG for
the instruments was 00483 and now I've changed it to 18483 and that
seems to have given me the mpg etc on startup instead of blank
screen, but still no directions. Any ideas?

2. I'm trying to connect the TV tuner ( newer type B, 54 pin
connector and 4 aerial sockets ) I have a new lead which has the RNS-
E connector on one end and 2 canbus wires and 2 power leads, and
2/3rds of the 54 pin connector at the other. When I try and connect
it, the RNS still says NO TV detected on the canbus under the VAG-
COM fault codes. Tuner part 4DO 919 146 B

00467 - TV Tuner (R78)
004 - No signal/Communication

My question is where do the canbus wires connect to? same place as
the infotainment canbus? if so I've tried that, but no joy. Is the
TV bosch canbus? Any help gratefully accepted.

Thanks

The S8 does have bose, but it had a NAV+ before. I think the sound quality is slightly better than before.

The DIS is dissapointing, but as the RNS-E shows all the directions in split screen mode it's not a big issue.

Yes, I thought so too, I have some things to play with this weekend to try and get DIS working.

What's strange is that I have radio in the DIS, but not navigation

Yep, that was the next thing to try, my concern is that it should have already been set as I had a sat NAV+ installed prior to the DVD based RNS-E, so it should already be set, DIS was working before the upgrade.

But I will have a play with VAG this evening.

Tested the adaptation, channel 62 was set to 5, which says to me

1+4 which is radio and nav enabled.

Now, something that has been niggling me all along, my old TMC unit is still connected, could that be stopping the display working, I'm thinking disconnect the lead from the TMC and join the two aerial leads together to bypass the TMC unit which will have no power.

I can't test that until Friday when I'm back home.

No, thats not the case, what has happened is that I have tapped the infotainment bus from behind the instrumnet cluster, so I'm not connected to the bosch side of the TMC unit at all. Only my TV tuner is connected to the bosch side.

No my car had a NAV+ system installed when i got it with TMC, and TV tuner/cd changer.

I upgraded the lead I was supplied myself to add the CD functions, canbus and phone which are different to the S4 wiring it was supplied for.
I tapped into the infotainment canbus at the back of the cluster which according to PaulW's excellent write up's is the place to do it.

I'm still guessing that the TMC is causing the issue here, I can't disconnect it until Friday to test.

I get radio stations in the DIS, cd tracks etc, but no directions.

Ignition and illumination are on the canbus, as I found out. The infotainment canbus is the one I used for those signals. As for the speed pulse, the unit I have has GALA enabled on the V-signal pin, so it works fine.

The part number is for a european A4/S4

4B0 035 192 P (it's like an A6 one with Gala)

Check this site out for useful Nav+ info, not RNS-E info though.

Erm, it's right there in the last reply I made...

In fact there's a complete write up about installing a nav system into B5 A4, but it's for the older NAV+ and not the RNS-E, but it helps...

Bypassed the TMC, joined the aerial leads and disconnected the TMC cable, so TMC in lo longer in the picture, still no DIS.

I'm stuck now.
