They got a couple of feet of fresh powder up in Vermont this week but I am stuck on Boston on an injured leg from skiing really great snow a few weeks back. Since it was a fairly nice day and since the car gets no love during ski season I decided to tinker and clean.

I have an RNS-E with VIM installed with a generic DVD player. It works pretty well but I wanted TV and also the convenience of the extra 2 RCS inputs of the Blaupunkt ME-3. Also in a B6 S4 better anti-skip is important since any pothole feels like an explosion.

I pulled the glovebox and dremeled the back of the top shelf to fit the deeper shape of the ME-3. Easy to do when you have the right tools. Took 10 minutes and looks professional. (Alot easier than the time I tried to do it with a fullsize sawzall and some extreme caution) Switching the harness wasn't a big deal and it was working in no time. The TV tuner worked decent but still better than expected. I'll need to get a powered antenna at some point.

I have an Ipod video and Nano. The ipod video has never worked well in the first place. I tested it with the RNS earlier in the year and I was able to get video output but not songs and album art on the RNS-E. Thanks Apple for making it so your UI cant be broadcast. I guess your just like Microsoft.

Well it turns out they arent. I hooked my Zune into the RCA's and the Zune nav screen appeared. I don't have any controls thorugh the RNS-E but still the full UI appears on the screen with songs and art. It looks pretty slick and I would rather navigate with the click wheel anyway. It was an nice surprise. Once I get my Tivo dropping shows onto my Zune I'll have all the video I need.

Here is a pic of Zune on the rnse.

Sean,
Good to know the Zune's UI will transmit natively. With the ipod, you won't get the UI on the RNSE (talk to Steve Jobs about that) but, you can purchase other devices that will transmit a UI middleware layer for music and video files:

1) Valor iLink Multimedia interface for ipod

2) Griffen TuneCenter (modified from home to car use):
http://forums.freshalloy.com/showthread.php?t=157557

(One of my custom harness customers is going this route with his 2003 allroad via the Dietz 1417)

Where this gets tricky is, when you are in TV/Video mode in the RNSE, the CDC controls (stuff in Connector B) CANNOT be used to control the ipod, zune etc via the RNSE. The only way to get around this is to install one of the Multi-Media kits from Proxus or Scott/GermanDriver. However, you will be controlling the music/video files from the MM device/hard drive…and I don't think the USB hook-up will give you any other new control -- of the Ipod, Zune from the RNSE. I could be wrong though.

As of now, most folks need to weigh these two options for functionality and control for the Ipod/RNSE:
A) Do you want the RNSE and your steering wheels to control changing tracks etc for you ipod?
B) Do you care more about seeing song/video files/graphics on your RNSE and would rather control the track/artist changes directly from the ipod?

Bottom line: As of now, the only answer for a solution in both "A" and "B" lies within what Proxus' german suppliers are "cooking up". Follow Proxus' thread in the Multi-media section of this forum. Proxus will certainly give us an update where there is a working/shipping product available.

Good luck!

Im the guy who wants to do option #2 (I think)

Since speaking with TeddyBgame Ive found the DLO HomeDock Deluxe to be a better idea - some challenges though

1) The dock is meant to have the ipod docked in it - this is hard to do in a car and I have not been able to find an IPOD extension cable to solve this so I can put the dock under the dash

2) The remote is IR (good) and I think a combo of products from the folks at PAC-AUDIO have created two products that might help

SWI-CAN -> SWI-X

What Im not sure about is how to have this work so that the remote signals are ONLY transmitted when in TV mode........ Not sure about this one so for now we are on hold........
