Which cables were missing?

Which cables did you have to change to get SAT radio working? And which adapter did you order (with Bose/handfree/CDC/...)? Where did you get the wires from? Or did you simply move some of the provided wires you don't need? Questions, questions, questions...

I'm wondering what I will get, especially because I have OnStar in addition to Bose (with future plans to add a CD-changer).

As we tested yesterday my cables (they are not KUFATEC) don't have SAT wires connected. I guess I need to but additional 3 (?) wires and modify it myself

I will post some detailed pics of my cables in NAVplus album later.

Is your vehicle pre-wired for SAT? That's what I'm looking for; the harness from the trunk to the pass kickpanel. I spoke to the dealer and they told me that the SAT harness is integrated into the interior vehicle harness and I must purchase the entire harness. My ETKA only goes to 2003 so I can't personally verify this. Now I'm looking for '04 at the wrecking yards to hack the harness out of. Otherwise I'll have to just make one.

The satalite radio is offered by Audi of America (AoA) as option in newer cars. The Symphony radio seems to have the sat radio tuner connected to the CD-Changer audio in, and the sat radio tuner is controlled via CAN.

I tried today a harness which did not have the CD-Changer cables and the RNS-E did not detect the sat tuner although we set the correct settings with VAG-COM. The question is: Does the EU RNS-E not work at all with the US sat tuner or did it not work because the required wires weren't in the harness we used.

I'm still waiting for my cables but when I receive those, they will be wired to support a CD-Changer and I will be able to test if the EU RNS-E works with the US sat tuner.

No. When we pulled my Symphony II in my 2004 A4 to test the RNS-E I saw that there were wires in the plug which is for the CD-changer. Since I don't have the changer and I don't think the car is prewired for a glovebox changer, I suppose what I read somewhere is correct and the sat tuner connects via CD-changer audio in. The sat tuner is controlled via CAN, so no wires reqired here (unless you want to upgrade to the OEM sat tuner without having it pre-wired by Audi).

I'm expecting to get the Kufatec adapter with support for a CD-changer and will then check if this allows me to use my XM sat tuner. But that's one of the open questions: does the EU RNS-E support sat radio?

Your dealer is right about the SAT harness. I have a MY05 A4 and the location for the reciever is right where he said it is. Look over on Audiworld.com under tech, there is an article called "Factory XM Radio Self-Install".

If you do manage to get the wiring harness you will also need the shark fin antenna if you don't have it already.

I haven't had any luck finding a junked 04+. I think I'm going to have to make the harness myself. The only thing I'm concerned with is the CAN. I didn't look yet, but what do these wires look like? Are they just a pair of regular wires that are twisted, or are they insulated and isolated from the rest of the loom too?
