RNS-E install on 2003 A6 2.7t

Has anyone experienced power steering issues after an RNS-E install? My install went perfectly, but now the power steering switches from soft to hard while I'm driving. It also is different almost every time I start the car...very strange...does anyone have any insight into this? :(

Nobody reported so far a similar issue but that may not mean that there aren't any. I would recommend to check with VAG-COM if there are any errors logged.
Did you perhaps dislodge the servotronic relay when you were pulling the speed signal wire? The servotronic relay "controls" the speed sensitive power steering, and is located under the steering wheel, where it might have been knocked loose when you pulled the speed wire from the clsuter. In your car it is either relay 605 or 628. Search the A6 forum on audiworld for more info on where exactly it's located.

I'm not sure if I dislodged the servotronic relay...I'll check. Is it something that is easily dislodged? Thanks for the tip!
I edited my post above to hopefully make it more clear, but then I saw you replied.

The relay has 6 or so metal tabs that engage the slots the relay sits in. It's just a friction fit (like an AC power plug) so I suppose it could become loose. Many people remove theirs (I removed mine from my previous 2000 A6 2.7T) because we prefer the non-boosted feeling all the time.

Given its location is relatively close to where you were working, it could certainly be a possibility.

Another possibility is that your install somehow caused the speed signal to the servotronic system to become intermittent or unreliable, so that the servotronic system can't tell how fast you're going and adjusts the steering boost incorrectly. This is just speculation though, I don't know where the servotronic system gets its speed information.

Hopefully, you didn't disconnect the GALA wire from behind the cluster....you just need to tap into it. I doubt that you did that....but it sounds like the servotronic steering relay (as mentioned in this post) was dislodged etc.

Keep us posted.
