hi all,
i am new to all this forum stuff but i really need help so please read on..

i have purchased an 8PO 035 192 A RNS-E and have installed it to my beloved S3 8L which has (had) symphony 2 6cd head unit with bose and it looks and works great, apart from a few (hopefully) teething problems.

1. i have to turn it on and off manually (wont work on ignition)
2. i have 2 existing aerial leads with no where to plug em (got no radio)
3. i have no display in cluster area

i did have the problem of it draining my battery but i think i have sorted that one [-o<

Most likely you wil lneed to find the infotainment CAN behind the instrument cluster. If your car doesn't have the infotainment CAN you will need to get a CAN bus adapter which creates those signals. For your antenna you should get an adapter to convert the HF signal to Fakra. Not sure if your Symphony is a I or II, if it's a Symphony I you may not have the ZF (diversity) signal coming from your existing antenna. For the cluster you should check with a VAG-COM if you can turn on CAN support. I heard that facelift A3 have that option. If you can't turn on CAN support you will be out of luck as the RNS-E doesn't support the old 3 wire bus anymore.

if it's a Symphony II you should have the CAN-High/-Low wires in the 20 pin plug. Check the diagram on yoru radio and compare it to this one:

CAN-L and CAN-H is what you need for the RNS-E, and the wires should be labeled on your RNS-E adapter.

A VAG-COM is a cable you use with your computer to tell your car that it now has an RNS-E. If you don't have one you may need to see your friendly dealer to make some changes for you, of find someone in your neiborhood who can help you.

But the first thing would be to connect the CAN wires correctly and get the correct antenna adapter.

It's worth a try since it really matters which one is CAN H and which one is L. You should also see the the illumination does turn on when you turn on the lights after fixing the CAN issue.

One more. If you r car is too old, you may not have the infotainment CAN at the radio but the comfort CAN, complete different thing. But now I'm really guessing as I have not seen anybody with an 2001 8L yet who installed an RNS-E.

Recode it to an A6, 0509113.

If you have as an A3 it will not work unless its in an 8P A3.

When you recode it, make sure you unplug the adaptor and re attach it to set it for A6.

Yes, you will need vag com.

0509111 is the correct code with no cd changer
