I installed a RNS-D in my 1999 A6 2 years ago...and have recently bought a RNS-E and adapter (with can bus)....

My question is on my current RNS-D my speed signal comes from the ABS unit ..because my car has no gala....will this work on the RNS-E and what do I need to do regarding getting a speed signal to the RNS-E.

The speed signal should be connected to the CAN adapter. If you got a 4B0 RNS-E it may even work when connected directly to the RNS-E. Doesn't really what signal it is, the RNS-E will adjust itself after driving around a while with speed and GPS connected.

you should be able to find the GALA behind the instrument cluster. See my links below. I'm surprised that your original concert HU wasn't running of the GALA. It should be a white wire with a green stripe in the black 8 pin adaptor (behind the Concert HU). This was the case with my 2001 A6....and I was told it is also the case for those with the Concert. Yours might be different. Who knows.

Remember to post pix and details so the others with the a single DIN HU can see what you did. Good luck on the Install!

Vagging a 1999 A6

Hi

Ive installed the RNS-E in my 1999 A6 with the can bus adapter...works a treat..thanks guys...

Ive tried to vag into it ...using my original cable purchased a while ago...upgraded to 409.x but threw an error "port ready:interface not ready"

So I bought a 409.x compatible vag cable from ebay (after reading about the incompatibility of the 3.11 software) still the same error..although works fine for the rest car with 3.11 software.

Do I need to purchase a ross tech cable...or is there a workaround...so I can get my rns-e in english and get the front speakers and cd changer working.
