Finally bit the bullet yesterday and retrofitted my A3 3.2S with the RNS-E.

Thanks to everyone's help on this forum for help on how to code the system, etc.

I wrote up a handy guide for those interested in doing a similar mod themselves.

Your coding section is wrong, there is no cluster programming for an A3 8P, you need to programme the CAN gateway (module 19) to tell the car it has a nav system installed.

Other than that, a nice write up...

That message tells you....

Can gateway (module 19) with VAG use the long coding helper and tick "Navigation", save the new number and reprogramme it.

In the coding of the RNS-E, at address 37 or 56 (it doesn't matter which).

For an A3 with Bose the coding should be 209x1y, where x depends on whether you have tha Audi phone interface or not a y depends on whether you have a CD changer, TV tuner or MFSW (2 tells it that it's in an A3, 0 enables front speaker diagnostics and 9 tells it to configure for Bose).

All the information you need about coding and adaptation channel values can be found either on this site or at http://de.openobd.org
