anyone know if the correct a3 rns-e would be a straight swap in a new a3 which currently has the double din height symphony 2 head unit

If you have the A3 8P (including Sportback), the 8P0 035 192 RNS-E (in Europe, don't know the US part no. yet) and the right adapters (for antenna, power, etc., same as for the A4 or A6), then it's a straight swap. The original Symphony II connector will not fit in the RNS-E, neither will the antenna plugs.

thanks for that

i can get the adapter easily

i presume the gala/speed is over CAN for the symphony 2 and the rns-e on this model?

As with all Audis, there is a single DIN and a double DIN option. He said in his first message that he has the double din height symphony 2 head unit.
