Driving from Monterey to Carmel last night & the nav wanted me to take not one, but two exits from 1-S, then immediately retake the highway. Why would it route me this way?

I have only seen this when the RNS-E was confused due to insufficient GPS data. Could also be a map data issue where the speed/distance information aren't correct.

I've seen this on several highways in the UK.

It's an error in the mapping data that makes the routing algorithm think that going down the off slip road and straight back up the on slip road is both shorter and quicker.

I've even had it tell me to drive through a layby (rest stop) instead of staying on the road!

For those of you in the UK - it happens every time I go west on the A303 near Thruxton, and east on the A30 just west of Basingstoke.

Strange I missed this thread earlier...but I agree that it is just a hiccup in the map data. Unfortunately it is something that Navteq probably won't fix for many years to come unless they specifically know about the problem.
