There is an interesting thread on motor-talk.de talking about several hard- and software changes for MY06 (Europe) devices. I'll try too summarize what has been said over there, but if you speak German I would recommend to follow the original thread.

The newest Euro DVD has software 0330, RNS-E devices have hardware 070. This is still the same RNS-E BASIC we know today with a couple of new features but different sources mentioned a new revision 8E0 035 192D (final confirmation pending) . There are also some rumors about a HIGH version of the RNS-E, the only difference is supposed to be voice control for the radio and navigation (besides the phone which is already voice controlled with the correct phone interface/FSE).

If you get hold of the EU 0330 DVD (2005.1), do not update your device if a) you cannot keep the DVD or b) you are using a patched US DVD. It has been reported (and is also written on the DVD cover) that older map DVD won't work anymore with the new software 0330. Since the US DVD patch is based on EU sw0050 it is likely that the patched DVDs won't work either anymore.

For those in Europe using the EU DVD, the new features are:
- New option under Navigation setup allows to mute the navi lady while being on the phone (ON/OFF/AUTO), with sw0140 and older the navi lady would continue to talk while you are on the phone
- Single click on volume button mutes the radio/MP3/CD, this is basically the radio/MP3/CD off function some have missed in the current release altough I don't know if the mute is really a mute or more a pause (which would make more sense).
- Click on volume button while navigationinstructions are spoken mutes navi lady and goes back to radio/MP3/CD, double click mutes radio/MP3/CD too (same as above).
- Time is displayed besides TP and TMC.
- New features with phone interface (FSE) 8P0 862 335 revision C / sw 0070 allow dialing using RNS-E and displaying BT signal level next to the clock/TMC icon.

It looks like that most of the new features only require a software update of the RNS-E and FSE, although final confirmation is still pending. Hopefully we will see a new software update for the US units as well, maybe together with the MY06 BT phone option, which gives us the same options and makes retroffiting the original BT phone kit more interesting.

Based on what I read so far, the 8E0 035 192D is the BASIC EU RNS-E with software 0330 and hardware 070. The 8E0 035 192F is the HIGH EU RNS-E, also SW 0330/HW 070, but with voice control for radio and navigation (besides the phone functions). It requires a different phone interface and the microphone gets connected directly to the RNS-E (and no longer to the phone interface).

I would be more than happy to test one of these if you don't find anybody else

Hi Dirk!

My supplier told me that the -F- version had the same FM/AM and CD/SD button as the US -E- version..

The -D- version looks pretty the same as the current -C- version..
Unfortunately I don't have any images yet!

I'll post them here immediately!

regards,
Tony

Confirmed by my supplier:

- 8E0 035 192 F is the NEWEST US Version
- 8E0 035 192 D is the NEWEST EU Version
am i the only one getting confused here... your first 2 posts contradict your last one...

so just to be 100% sure, did your supplier confirm what he said to you earlier (first 2 posts):
- 8E0 035 192 D: US Version
- 8E0 035 192 F: EU Version
or has he corrected it to (latest post):
- 8E0 035 192 D: EU Version
- 8E0 035 192 F: US Version

I've tried to get some more information from my dealer today and they told me "the new DVD (2005.1) is supposed to be used only on cars which have VIN numbers over 6xxxxx (which is to be read: from cars being produced on or after 01 June 2005)... For previous cars, there still is no newer DVD (we obviously are speaking of EU cars)".

This leads me think the newer version of HW for the HU has been started appearing only on newer cars, and this could give a better explanation to what is happening on eBay (8E0 035 192 C units appearing as mushrooms at very low prices... and no newer versions at all: a big stock clearance from Ingolstadt ???).

Someone have other infos/ideas ?

Currently, I have a "C" version (HW 055) which I would like to sell as I'm wishing to change to "H" version. Does anyone have an idea of which other changes are to be made (phone unit, MIC, etc.) ???

Ciao

Based on what I read so far, the "H" unit requires wiring changes because the microphone is now directly connected to the RNS-E and no longer to the phone interface. You will also need a new phone interface which supports the new wiring.

The 2005_1 DVD with software 0330 is supposed to work on older RNS-E units as well but once updated to 0330, older DVDs won't work anymore. All new B7 MY 2006 will come with the new "D" RNS-E which is at software 0330 already.

No other info yet...

And here they are.. the first 'real' images of the -F- version..
The first thing that comes to my attention are the button names:

"RADIO" becomes "AM!FM" and
"CD/TV" becomes "CD/SD"

but since we are speaking of an US version and after a quick look around the pictures in the album, I think this is normal... It was so also on previous versions...

Since, even if Germany is nearer to me than to you, I don't speak a word of German and it's quite difficult for me to follow that forum, do you happen to know anything about this:

AUDI Part: 8PO 919 884 H
Version 2005_2
DVD Part.No. T1000-9674
Western Europe 2005_2
Pack No. T1000-9673

While the following information are from the DVD you were speaking of:

AUDI Part: 8P0 919 884 E
Version 2005_1
DVD Part No. T1000-9512
Western Europe 2005_1
Pack No. T1000-9510

All the numbers reported seem greater to me so I would like to investigate which other differences are being introduced with this latest-latest DVD...

BTW, will we be able to be fast enough if upgrades are coming within "days" and not anymore within "months" ???
BTW2, those DVDs are not really cheap... AUDI Dealer pricelist is around 600 USD !!!

God save us...

The last message on Motor-talk.de said that 2005_1 and 2005_2 contain the same software and map but the 2005_2 (8P0 919 884 H) is for the RNS-E High with voice control while the 2005_1 (8P0 919 884 E) is for the Basic RNS-E. They are bot supposed to work in the Basic unit.

We just bought a 2006 A3 in the US and it has the same S/W and H/W version as above (SW: 0040, HW: H70) and I'm p*ssed that the CD transport control page has no PAUSE control. Else I'm blind I guess. What's the normal route to getting an upgrade and what do I do to get in line???

Thanks!
GB

PS Actually there are a few other things with the MMI I'm not too impressed with, but the missing PAUSE feature is the most annoying.

The missing pause is a frequently mentioned anoying issue. There is no update available right now which would introduce a pause function to either CD or MP3 playback. Raise your concerns with AoA, maybe they listen and add this to a future update.

I've just upgraded to the 2005_2 DVD with 0360 SW and I'm VERY happy to report that the Pause is a proper pause - at least on MP3 (I can't check it on CD's because my CD changer still isn't working - it's one of the very few things that this forum hasn't been able to solve - yet).
