Just installed the RNS-E (EU Version 4B0 035 192P) in my 2001 Audi Allroad (US Version), inserted hacked US-DVD and the unit works fine but with the following problems which I attribute to not having done the VAG-COM bit yet (car doesn't know the unit is there):
-unit doesn't know when car starts moving
-unit must be turned on/off manually (shuts off after 30 mins even while driving)
-no directions or radio info in instrument cluster
-units' buttons do not light up

PROBLEM: When selecting 37 or 56 in VAG-COM error comes back saying the controller could not be accessed. All other controllers can be accessed, so VAG-COM is obviously working. I should also note that the car came with the almost totally useless US version of the NAV system (not even Nav-Plus) - although I have already removed the Nav computer from the trunk - perhaps this has something to do with the problem?

Other problems: AM radio almost non-functional, and even FM suffers from poor reception, but this was expected (at least the AM part).

GOOD NEWS: Other than that, unit works great. Navigation seems to work (huge improvement over old system), and although I did not bother hooking up the GALA wire yet, the unit seems to work weel enough expcet when going through tunnels. I want to fix the other issues before this.

As fritzner said, check the CAN high/low wires and k-line. The FM reception should not be worse than on your old radio but you have to get the correct antenna adapter. If you leave the diversity antenna disconnected you will only get a poor signal. There are also some cheap antenna adapters out there which use SMB or poor quality plugs. Make sure you get a dual Fakra housing with a quality ISO connector.

Good luck...
