Hi

This weekend I will try! to retrofit cruise control to the Audi. Has anybody done this before and can send me some tips?

I will get some pics and a list of instructions.

So far I have ordered the following parts:

8P0 953 513 B (9B9 Black) New switch with small cruise control
8P0 953 512 A Trim lower part for models with cruise control system

The car has:

8P0 953 549 C: Electronic Module for steering column combination switch

Well let you know how it goes?

Hi

After fitting cruise control today which went well, the only part is to re-code the relevant parts of the car.

Does anybody know the correct numbers for the different boxes?

I would assume I will need to change:
{Steering Wheel Electronics}
Control Module Coding
Select 16 (Steering Wheel Electronics)
Coding -> Function 07
00?xxxx: Transmission
0 - Manual Transmission
1 - Automatic Transmission
00x?xxx: Steering Wheel
0 - 3-Spoke, w/o Tiptronic, w/o Multi-Function
1 - 3-Spoke, with Tiptronic, w/o Multi-Function
2 - 4-Spoke Multi-Function (with Radio Control)
3 - 4-Spoke Multi-Function (with Radio/Telephone Control)
4 - 4-Spoke Multi-Function (with Radio/Telephone/Voice Control)
00xx?xx: Tiptronic/Heating
+1 - Tiptronic on Steering Wheel
+2 - Steering Wheel Heating
00xxx?x: Cruise Control/Board Computer
0 - no Board Computer, no Cruise Control
1 - Board Computer, no Cruise Control
2 - no Board Computer, Cruise Control
4 - Board Computer, Cruise Control
00xxxx?: Rear Wiper
0 - w/o Rear Wiper
1 - with Rear Wiper
Any help much appreciated.

Assuming you have DSG, no multifunction, DIS and rear wiper your coding will be 0011111. To enable cruise control you would need to change it to 0011141.

It's the 6th digit that you need to change, all other digits should stay just as they are.
Perfect thank you.

I did the coding as suggested; I found this on the Ross-Tech website as well:

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/vwmkIV.html

Activating Cruise Control on a new ECU (DBW):
Factory fresh ECU's often come with cruise control de-activated. If this is the case, there will not be a letter "G" in the Component field of VAG-COM when connected to the Engine.

[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Login - 11]
Enter 11463 to activate cruise control
[Do It!]
After doing this procedure, there should be a letter "G" in the Component field.
Then change the 16 – Steering Wheel code – as listed above.
I now have the green cruise control lamp on when I set the speed!!!! it works. Very easy!

Excellent! Glad your install was easier than mine (I had to replace the SCSM, since the original factory fit one wouldn't accept the coding for cruise control).

I remembered about the login needed on the engine ECU when I replied to your posting on http://www.tyresmoke.net.
Anybody confirm that if I have Steering Wheel module 8P0 953 549 B that I need the C version to enable me to install cruise on my 2005 (UK) A3 8P 2.0TDi DSG.

About the only extra that I would like that the previous owner didn't order.

Thanks,

Paul
Stealers did my cruise control retrofit yesterday. I had the latest SCSM and steering wheel module and only needed the stalk
They mounted everything and coded the steering wheel for cruise... After this they said that I need an extra repair wire and have to come back next week cause they don't have it in stock.
Got home and put my laptop (thank god for vag-com) and coded the engine 01 for cruise also! And wonders! It works :)
steering ecu

Can anyone confirm that I have the correct Steering Ecu to allow CC to be fitted.
I have an A3 8p with the updated 8P0 953 549 F out of an 07 for the MFSW etc.
Many thanks
Confirmed! ;0)

Yes, your steering controle module supports CC and MFSW.

The dealer is an idiot, connect VAS or VCDS to the car and connect to the SCSM - it will display the part number including version. No dismantling needed.
Thanks!

I have this info about steering wheel control module:
1K0953549AH
J0527 036
---0070
Coding: 2

Can I just fit cruise control or do I also need to change steering wheel control module?

Thanks,
Goran
