a dealer can contact Audi to lookup the code if you have the VIN of the car the unit was originally (first) installed in. Some don't like to do this because if the unit is stolen it's causing all kind of trouble. But it is possible...
I never received the code card on the unit I purchased on eBay Germany.

My unit is not locked or anything. Is there anyway to retrieve the code on my unit.
You can read unit serial number and dealer should be able to get it for you.
THERE IS NO NUMBER ON THERE THAT THE DEALER COULD USE TO GET A CODE FROM. I TRIED BUT NO LUCK.
THERE HAS TO BE A WAY
can't you get the serial number using the VAGCom even if the unit is locked?
Serial number is on the top of the NAV.
Additionally you should be able to access engineering mode:

and read the number from this screen:

I'm not 100% sure if you can acces engineering mode without a code but you can try.
I doubt that you can get into engineering mode with the unit locked and no, the serial number is not printed on the label. However, there are some units which had the serial number and/or code on a separate label but that's not original...
