It sounds like the GPS antenna is kaput. If you cancel all navigation, turn off unit, turn of engine, get out of car, lock up. Go and have a brew / bacon buttie / sh*g / sh*t / whatever for an hour or so. Then turn on radio, press Navigation button, but don't select a route. Instead, just select the map display - is the arrow (car position) located correctly - is it showing your car located where it ACTUALLY is (your home if that is where you actually are), or is it indicating somewhere else? If it shows somewhere else - then the Navi unit is not getting a GPS signal. While still on the map display, press the right round knob again, and you should get the GPS screen (black backround with red lettering), it should show you if you are actually receiving a GPS signal, and yould also tell you your location co-ordinates.

Ok Sean,
Tired that, the gps is working fine,it shows me at my house etc, this is very strange,i left work this evening and keyed in my stored destination of home, the nav worked fine, pulled into my drive-way and the nav told me i had reached my destination, now when i stopped the car and typed in the destination of home(rememberaim at home at this point)l showing my route point of origin at work altough the nav unit picks me up at my house,i hope this makes sense coz its pissing me off,no matter what destination i put in,the nav unit route(blue line) point of origin is my place of work although the car is somewhere else(cirle with triangle in the middle),if anyone can offer advice(teddy)please help me as the nav unit is not working how it should be,

could be the internal gyro?

In addition to the GPS, the Nav+ uses an internal gyro device. Somewhere in the Yahoo forum, somebody had this same problem. It required them to remove the top cover of the Nav+ (fairly easy) and reattaching the Gyro (if it has become dislodged).

Drop Jon Lofquist a note and see if can offer any other advice.

You can also try a new GPS and see if that changes anything. Your current GPS might have intermittent problems.

Outside of this, I am all out of ideas.

Keep us posted.

If we get this figured out, you can treat me to a pint of Guiness at your local pub. My company (EMC) has a big manufacturing plant in Cork.

Cheers,

I'm also thinking of a GPS antenna failure. The fact that it always thinks you are in the same location makes me think that. I test a lot of units and move them around all the time. When you power up a unit, it will think it's in the most recent location where it could establish a location (until it gets a new location).

Ensure the unit is on and the car is out in the open (not under a structure). Go to Mode, Settings, GPS Viewer. You need at least 4 satellites to navigate, but should see 6-8 typically. It must also show your current location in longitude/latitude.

Try that first - we'll go from there..... Not all the symptoms point to one thing for certain.

Hi Jon,
Thanks for your help, still trying to figure it out,but let me explain again,i feel the gps is working as it picks me no matter where i am(triangle with circle around it in red)would this not indicate the gps is working??the prob is i cant clear the route to my place of work, anytime i key in a destination it(blue line)places my route(not my car)at my job, even if im 30 miles away, its very puzzling indeed, teddy mentioned something about a gyro inside the unit so im hoping to check that out tomorrow, hope i explained properly,
Thanks

All very strange. I’ve continued to think about this and have no real answer. I’d still like to see that it’s receiving satellite info, but if it’s tracking the car nicely (not jerky and slowly), then I guess it is.

I helped out on one gyro issue. It’s really only used when turning so that the navi can quickly change your direction without having to wait for the GPS info that says you are traveling in a different direction. But for reference, it’s in the front left top corner and is connected to the CD ROM circuit board with a three-position green connector.

When you start a navigation does it not show your car in the proper location like it does when you are not navigating to a destination? Or does it show the car at your job? Did you at one time input your job as a destination? Try clearing all of the past destinations and see what happens.

yes when i start a naviagtion it shows my car in the correct spot at all times,my problem is that the route it offers me is always from my job even though my car could be in the driveway at home and is being picked up correctly by the gps,i have tried clearing all the destinations and that hasnt worked Jon,its a strange and its pissinhg me right off as the nav unit is worthless if i cnt clear it,going to remove the unit this week and disconnect and then reconnect to see if that sorts it out,il keep you posted and cheers for the help, pain in the bum its is and its driving me mad,

just reflash your firmware. that should reset all memory buffers.
