Prototype Dietz iPod Interface on Essen Motorshow

Last monday I went to the motorshow in Essen and had a talk at the Dietz guys.
They showed me pictures of the red-display in the dash that showed artist and songname information. They told me that it was a prototype of a new interface to be released next year. It worked for both with and without RNS-E.

Unfortunately they still didn't have an interface to enable navigation and video-in-motion at the same time.

But the future looks bright for the iPod enthousiast. Estimated costs are about 250-300 euro's.

Dietz stuff is never cheap but they are one of the few who I believe could develop an MP3 to CAN interface. The question is how they will integrate this with the HU. It's easier if you have a multi function steering wheel in which case you simply listen for the buttons on the CAN and let your device do something. But using the HU (either RNS-E or Symphony/Concert) to control that device would require to either use the CDC or TV controls. Hopefully they will come up with something which will work with the US SAT as well.

Dension is supposed to work on an MOST version of the IceLink Plus. But that rumor started already 1 year ago and nobody has seen anything so far. I'm sure that it remains interesting...
They (dietzpeople) are able to use the DVB-T TV Tuner with the RNS-E (switch channels) with HU, so I think they will be able to control the iPod as well. By the way, when you cut/switch the Galawire, you can watch and navigate at the same time! I can with my RNS-E codet as A6.

Thanks for verifying this. I thought this to be true. Time to run the GALA wire from the cluster. :)
