Backgound info:

- 2 years ago I upgraded from Symphony I to Nav+ (RNS-D), it works great
- I recently purchased an RNS-E

Problems before I connect the CAN bus to the cluster, might all be related to the missing CAN bus:

- there are no button illumination on the unit
- the brightness control for the screen doesn't do anything
- the ignition does not turn on/off the unit
- after 30 min (aprox) the unit turns off

Problems after I connect the CAN bus to the cluster:

- I can enter the security code when the ignition is OFF
- I can enter the security code when the ignition is ON but it prompt for it again in less than 1 second and keep doing this.
- the ignition key now controls the power of the unit
- I have not checked the rest, I'm getting somewhat disapointed

I need help, tip anyone?

All of your original problems will disappear now that CAN is connected.

To get your PIN entered, follow these steps:

1. Turn on the ignition. Turn on the RNS-E if it does not start with the ignition.
2. Press the “SETUP†and “RADIO†(or FM|AM) buttons for a few seconds until the unit reboots.
3. Input the PIN code. The unit will likely immediately return to the PIN entry screen.
4. If the unit accepts the PIN code, you're done!
5. With the ignition still on, input the PIN code a few more times and wait 15 minutes.
6. Turn the ignition off and wait 30 minutes.
7. Repeat steps 1 through 4.

The ignition key is supposed to turn the unit off and on so this is correct.

it works

After I went for dinner I tried it again and it worked, thanks for the help.
I guess patience can go a long way, but when it get to these "toys" I become less rational, feels like a kid at Xmas !

Same thing happened to me... and even worse once I finally got it working the first time, my NAV DVD was fouled, so half my stuff still didn't work!

Enjoy!

Yes I also have the DVD problem, half the time the unit doesn't want
to read the DVD. Yes it's is a copy, I'll need something more reliable !
Do you guy use a copy? I'm in northeast Canada, humid/cold right now
and it can get hot in the summer. (-30C to +40C with all possible humidity levels).

Yes I use a copy, but it has to be on good DVD media. I use Verbatim or Memorex. Works for me in all weather, but then again I don't get as cold as you!
