Where do I get the "pins" to install at the end of the bare wires? Once I put "pins" at the end of these wires, I need to plug them into the 20 pin-connector (connector 1).

Anyone know where I can but these "pins"? What size/type etc.

You can get several pins with or without wires from your Audi dealer. Search for pins here in the forum and you will find several topics. One of Ted's topics lists parts number and where those pins are used.

I saw Ted's info + part #'s. However, my local dealer is, to say it nicely, aweful + doesn't stock squat. I was hoping I can get what I need at the local auto parts or radioshack

Ok, I have the pins (thanks Ted for the correct part #'s).

Do I solder the wire to the pins or simply crimp-on?

They are usually crimped as soldering may not be at reliable as crimping is. However, without the right tools it's a pain to crimp the pins right. I would probably try crimping first, and solder as well if it doesn't look as solid as it should be.
