I just bought a phatbox this weekend, it is currently on the way to me. I was wondering if anyone had the wiring diagram for the phatbox input? I have a bunch of 13 pin cables and connectors laying around, so I figured I build the cable that Audi sells (Changer cable to phatbox; 000 015 592A). Or am I just better off sucking it up and buying the cable from Audi?

Thanks,

Steve

Well if you don't have or had the factory CD changer then you will need to buy pins and possibly the plug from Audi to install it. If you had or have the factory changer then you don't need any wiring. Now since you didn't say what year your car is I can't say but my car had the wiring in place already from the factory. For the hassle I would buy the cable but then again I don't know what they are worth.

Sorry...slip my mind. I have the cable from the head unit to the trunk for the CD Changer. However, I donot have a changer in there...but the 13-pin connector is wrapped in foam waiting to be connected. The car I have is a 2001.5 A4 Avant 1.8t.

Thanks for your help.

just spend the $50 for the cable. Less hassle etc.

See my link below for my phatbox install. Enjoy!

Maybe I'm missing something. If he has the factory wiring then why buy another harness?

David
sounds like he bought the VW version.....therefore..he needs the audi-specific cable to interface it with the pbox.

See my link below....to my pbox install....to answer all further questions.

yeah Teddy you gotta hook me up with some mp3's. i couldn't resist the low low price. i figured it would cost me almost the same just to buy all the cables to hook up my ipod i might as well go with the phatbox and all the peer pressure from friends  the problem i have is where will i put this thing. i already have my tv tuner in the space under the cd changer. i guess i'll have to take out the cd changer and use that space for the phatbox instead.

update: clairparts has a 2 week backorder on the phatnoise cable. :(

You have a sedan...so you can mount it underneath the rear shelf. With us avant owners...our options are limited to the rear boot.

Email me your mailing address and I'll send you my 90GB of MP3's. This will give you some time to setup you playlists and load the DMS.

i am either gonna mount it under the hat shelf or custom mount it in the cd changer slot (probably need to slice the aluminum sides on the phatbox to fit). either way it should be pretty easy. just called them to check the status today and found that the phatbox is on backorder for a week.

update:
got the phatbox and looks like it will fit perfectly in the slot where the cd changer sits so dont need the mounting kit. still waiting for the audi cable though.

I had to replace my unit this week. It's been acting up for some time. I would jump in the car in the morning and show no CD Changer and sometimes No CD. I would unplug the unit and plug it back in and all was fine. It was intermittent so not sure what it could have been.

Apparently the dealer had this problem in another car but after they did the plug unplug routine it didn’t' come back... Very Strange.

I did get an entire new unit though :)

So umm Ted your sharing? :)

us phatbox needs to be converted to euro spec

as some of you may have noticed the us spec phatbox, when used with the
euro nav+/mfd headunit, skips once in a while. These skips can be a
short jump in the music or momentary drop of the cd changer connection.
I believe all the us spec phatboxes used with euro nav+s have this
problem. some may be minor so you don't notice it as much. some may
skip a few times for each song. The skipping problem is related to the
buffer chip used. The euro spec phatbox uses a different voltage chip
than the us spec phatbox so when used with the euro nav+ it creates a
power incompatibility problem. i have successfully converted the US
spec phatbox to euro spec and it's now fully compatible with the nav+
and doesn't skip anymore. This conversion is not recommended to anyone
who does not have expert soldering skills. The chip is extremely tiny
so a magnifying glass and super fine tip soldering iron are needed. DO
NOT attempt if you're not a soldering expert or i can guarantee that
you will end up with a phat paperweight. Email me at kenzhao8 at
comcast dot net for part numbers and questions.

important news if you have trouble with phatnoise on nav+

it is becasue there is this one chip that you need to solder on.. and if u have skillz.. then you can solder it on.

FOR Those who don't... see if you are lucky to beg and get phatnoise to do that for you! :) i did... and am getting a RMA done now. but they did warn a 30+ days for return.

please go there with a open mind, and don't say you read it at a forum.. they are BEING extremely nice about this, so if you work with their system enough they will take care of you by doing they VERY difficult solder for you.

Does anyone know how to identify the Euro spec unit ? Is it as simple as just buying it from ebay germany ? And then hooking it up to the NavPlus.

Thanks !
