Has anyone ever tried to upgrade the hard drive on the PhatNoise? I got one today but it has to go back because they gave me the VW unit not the Audi. I did take the liberty of opening the cartridge though and it's just a standard 2.5" hard drive.

Soooooo now I'm curious if the drive can just be swapped. I know it uses a fat32 file system but I can't open everything up or they wont return it. If someone has a different hard drive kicking around it would be interesting to know.

I know the only difference is the cable but the part is definitely VW. I don't want to mess the part's guy up by getting him to switch boxes and so forth around. Since I can't use it until I get the cable no use doing anything with it. That and I noticed some sort of add in the box that expired Dec 2003 so I figure I'll get a unit that’s newer this way.

As far as the disk imaging goes, I do have a program called Casper that works great for imaging. I also have USB adapters and IDE adapters for 2.5 drives. I may give this a shot. Since PhatNoise offers an 80 gig cartridge it must be just a larger drive.

I figure one of 2 things, either there is an OS or operating instructions on the drive that make it work in the main unit or there is some sort of EPROM that controls the type of hard drive which I figure is less likely.

Oh boy.. Another project.
