Don't know how to get to the bottom but I have several levels of folders and usually not more than 30-40 songs per folder. Works quite well.

How about detecting iPod HDD via adapter and translate the logic and interface to look same way as SD cards?
Personally I don't care especially with 2 x 2Gb SDs in my Nav 8)
