Hey everyone, im thinking of installing the RNS-E on a 2002 A6 and have a few questions about it. First, how plug and play is the installation? I have seen alot about having to use VAGcom and am wondering if its absolutly necissary to get the system working. Do you loose steering wheel button funcionality with the RNS-E? and is it very simple to send the information up to the dash screen? I am sorry if these are basic questions, but just want to know what im getting myself into before dropping nearly $1000 on this. Thanks

This is for a 2002 A6, North America, Bose Symphony II

This article has most of the answers you are looking for: http://www.navplus.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=238
and this has the pictures how it works in your car: http://www.navplus.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=70
You will need VAG-COM to check the RNS-E and see if it's coded for an A6, the right tire size, etc., and you will need to tell your car that there is now a navigation device wich send data to the instrument cluster. Until you car got properply coded, the RNS-R may not show the right information or may not show up at all in the DIS.

And you are looking more at US$2000 for the whole package, unless you get the unit really cheap...
