Need some clarification on downside of US unit

Hey guys,

I've been trying to research the heck out of the RNS-E unit for the past few days, but I have a couple of questions that I was hoping somebody could help me with. Basically, it seems to me that if a US and an EU unit were the same price, it would be better for us US people to go with a US unit because we wouldn't have to patch DVDs to make them work, we'd have the option of sat radio, and our AM stations would work fine.

However, my sticking point is this... can I still get DVDs and or TV to play on the US unit? I know I would still have to buy an external DVD player like the ME3, and I know I would need the Deitz adapter, but after I purchase those two items, I should still be able to get video in motion, correct? (assuming I buy the 1280 adapter) Are there any downsides to the US unit besides the cost? Just wondering if somebody could please help me out here.

Oh, and the US unit that I'm looking at is the E version, so I suppose I would need the newest version of the software? Does this mean that I won't be able to use the nav features until they release the new DVD sometime next month?

The main reason people go with the EU unit over the US version is because of the price.

You said it seems they cost the same but that isn't what I have found. The US unit goes for about $800+ over the price of the EU unit usually.
