That is what the red connector is for in your picture... it connects the RNS-E to the 20-pin radio plug... and that 20-pin radio plug contains the wires that run to the back for your CD changer or phatbox.

It looks like you are just missing the connector "B" in the Quad-lock. You can simply buy the connector "B" housing and wire pins from audi and plug them in yourself.

Also included in the connector "B" are the BOSE pin and K-line connections. I'm not sure how this is supposed to work without the K-line connection for diagnostics.

Also, if your '02 S4 is a B5 chassis, you will need to connect the V-signal wire that is also part of connector "B". If it is a B6 S4, this connection is not required.

You can see a chart of which pins to connect where by downloading the install guide from my website (just click my sig).

Alternatively, you can return your PNP harness and swap it for one that includes the CDC wiring.

ok well the one i dont have connected is 10 pins ... i guess i dont know what thats for ? the weird thing is everything else works but i have no phat box and no radio but thats because i dont have the antenna adapter yet.

but in the 20 pin plug witch your telling me is all my audio the rns-e cable only has 8 wires where the 20 pin plug has 20 wires so im guessing theres where im missing my wires.

so im guessing thats why i dont have my phat box working. but if im missing a hole plug and everything still works why is that ?

eather way i guess the question is will it be easyer just to buy a new harness then to try to make this one work or is it pritty easy to make this one work ? any help will be great thanks alot
Yes, you are right, the 20-pin plug in your car has most of the wires for your cd changer/phatbox. These are the wires that should be extended to your RNS-E "B" connector... the big rectangle hole that is empty in your picture. This B connector also houses your speed signal, K-line, and BOSE pin. Therefore, your RNS will be operational without all of these connected, but you will see some problems in your B5...

-Without the K-line, you cannot connect to the RNS-E with VAG-COM to code it.

-Without the V-signal, your navigation will not update frequently, so your vehicle position on the map will be "jumpy" as you drive.

-Without the BOSE pin, your sound will be "not quite right" if you have the BOSE speakers.

-Without all the CD changer wires, your phatbox will not work at all.
if i was to buy a new harness becuase its going to cost alot of money to buy all the connectors and wires from the dealer.. is this the one i need or is it another one becuase my car has 4 connectors in it and this one only hads 3 plugs ? i dont know if the 4th plug i have in my car is for. the phone or something? i really dont know can anyone help me out with this

Never trust the pictures you see in those online shops. In most cases they use the picture for all variants of the adapter.

When you order the adapter, always mention that you want an adapter with support for a CD changer and for a phone kit. Also specify if you have Bose or not and which Audi model the adapter is for. This way you should get at least the correct connectors.

If you order a Bose adapter you won't get the brown 8 pin connector (front speakers). If you order with CD changer support then the 20 pin red connector must have pins in all three sections (there are some pins unused in the middle section but the left and right section should be fully populated). If you order phone support you should get an 10 pin black connector with 3 pins installed. And of corse the 8 pin power connector which also carries the k-line and Bose-wire.

Actually, the phone connector will be a black 10 pin connector with 3 male pins.

Thanks, ted, corrected my original reply, to many pins and plugs to deal with

Did you double check the wiring connections in your new harness?

You will probably have to manually connect your CDC chassis ground wire from your symphony plug to ground because there is no official CDC ground wire connection on the RNS-E.
