Multimedia RNS-E harness for Dietz modules

2158 Views 17 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  dbgtr
The image below shows a new harness I've been putting together that interfaces the Dietz harnesses directly to the RNS-E adapter. All of the wires are crimped/soldered directly to the RNS-E connections so that there are no splices and areas for wires to come loose.
The image shows the Dietz 1417 and 1280 wired together with the RNS-E adapter. The 1417 and 1280 can be opted individually. Pricing has not been set but will be offered as an additional service. I'm also looking into, if anyone is interested, in doing this to customers' harnesses that have already been bought and installed but want a more custom and clean version without all of the splice taps and so forth.
When the option is first offered it will be only offered for purchases that include the adapter harness and the Dietz devices since I'll be using the harnesses that come with the Dietz modules until I get the inventory to make our own Dietz harnesses.

Let me know what you all think.

Thanks,

Lanny

That looks like a great idea, and great execution. You should sell a good deal of these.

I would also like to suggest adding another CAN H and CAN L pigtail that the customer can use in the future for a satellite radio or Bluetooth module installation.

Excellent suggestion, thank you.

That's exactly what I've been wanting to have done to a harness! Once you get one made, let me know and I'll purchase one.

Would two (2) CAN H/CAN L wires in pig tail be better for some installs? Meaning if you wanted both the OEM Satellite Radio & a Blue Tooth install?
Remember, the 1280 interface that is spliced between the CAN H & L only blocks speed information and passes all other information through. At least this is what I am told from Dietz and please correct me if I'm wrong.
Someone should make a "box" for inputting the CAN signals and then have multiple outs for future upgrades?

Is this possible?

See the downloads page on my website... "CANbus Distribution Panel"

nice work Lanny. I basically did the same thing...but I extended the CANbus wires from the plug/play harness to below the lower dash so you can add 1417, SAT etc. One comment though, you might want to consider putting a seperate fuse on the 1417's power source. Couldn't hurt. 3amp should be enough. As I recall, my previous Nexxtel A/V interface on my RNS-D only drew a small amount of current...so 3AMP is probably more than enough for the 1417.

I definitely think there is a need for having a separate set of CANbus wires running out of all of these harnesses. Think about it - the market for cars without the factory installed OEM SAT tuner is very large. Eventually, everyone will need that interface....and I don't have the bandwidth to modify everyone's plug/play adaptor (of those that email me daily). Luckily, my pin extraction tools has simplified it. :)

great job Lanny!!.. very helpful item..
I take that back about adding 2 CAN signal pig tails, I'll only need 1. I'm going to make the CAN Distribution Box from NSXjr's website. It will make things much easier.

p.s. I sent in my information via your website http://www.euro-parts.us/ and I'll be waiting for your results.
Also in the process of implementing custom harnesses - made to order.

Any word on the custom RNS-E wiring harnesses? I'm getting ready to get a new 2005 S4 and would like to have a custom harness for adding at Video source later.

I would be nice to have everything nicely put together.
It's going on the website next week with the cost being $25 for custom integration with the purchase of the Dietz modules. If someone wants to send their RNS-E harness in to have the work done it will be $35 plus shipping.

Individual Multimedia harnesses, not requiring Dietz purchase, will be up in a couple of weeks (Still waiting for all of the parts to arrive) and the price on this harness is not yet set but will most likely be around $90-$95. I'm trying to get the price down but it's better to estimate higher and have it be a nice thing to be able to offer it at a lower cost, if it works out that way.

The $35 dollar send in your current harness for modification can be applied to any Multimedia interfaces and not just the Dietz that I am selling.

The prices reflect standard harness but custom harnesses with more options/connections/wires is certainly possible and I'll be working on a pricing structure that will hopefully encompass all of this.

Cheers,

Lanny

P.S. Our test harnesses are working beautifully thus far.

Let me know when the custom wiring harnesses are available as I want one.
Now available and is now a topic where it belongs in the adapter section here http://www.navplus.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2112
Are you going to make a harness for the bluetooth interface.

I have the RNS-E factory installed.

I just want to add the bluetooth interface box!

Do you mean integrated into the adapter or a seperate harness? Sorry not quite clear as t othe question.

I was thinking seperate harness, don't want to mess with my factory installed RNS-E.
