I am going to rip a few CDs I purchsed over the weekend to the computer and get them ready to put on an SD card.

From what I understand, I can simply just rename each track "Artist - Song.mp3" and it will display the artists's name and song title on the RNS-E...so ID3 tags are not needed, but is there any advantage to doing the tags as well when it comes to the RNS-E?

ID tags are different from the file names. So as fars as my knowledge goes your gonna need the ID tags. You can download a program called Tag&Rename for a trial of 30 days that automates alot of renaming files and generating ID tags. I highly recommend that program.

If you have no ID3 tags your songs will be listed by the file extension *.mp3. Otherwise you will view the tracks as to whatever the ID3 tag displays. You can alter tags many ways. I use a program called Easy CD Converter. When I make playlists for the car on SD I delete entire tag and just keep the *.mp3 name. I dont plan to view song source I just concern myself with artist and track name. If I am ripping a CD for the compute rI will upload CD code and have it provide me with proper ID3 tags. Either way you do it though will work with the RNS-E
