I just tested MMI system unit on new Audi Q7 yesterday.
You can clearly see differencies between RNS-E and MMI. Majority of the functionality i based on car-integrated features, including detailed car diagnostic screens. I took few pictures (phone quality - sorry)

Most interesting is this screen. This is telling me that MMI is designed to handle (now or in the future) more Bluetooth devices.

This is reminding me of long awaited Audi Bluetooth Gateway.
Of course it could be used just for A2DP phone audio transfer instead of iPod but that's a good start ;)

I tested out the phone function on the Q7 which takes a SIM card directly and loved it...the coolest part was that you could see your SMS messeges on the Audi screen...talk about full functionality!

The next step in Europe is SAP, Secondary Access Profile, where a full GSM phone is installed in the car and all it grabs via BT is the SIM card information. This way you get the best signal through the hard wired external antenna and best voice quality (because voice is no longer transferred via BT). The new Euro Passat has one of those systems. But it only works with phones that support SAP via BT, mostly Nokia at this time.

Does anybody know if SAP is pallned to be offered in the US?
