I just tested MMI system unit on new Audi Q7 yesterday.
You can clearly see differencies between RNS-E and MMI. Majority of the functionality i based on car-integrated features, including detailed car diagnostic screens. I took few pictures (phone quality - sorry)

Most interesting is this screen. This is telling me that MMI is designed to handle (now or in the future) more Bluetooth devices.

This is reminding me of long awaited Audi Bluetooth Gateway.
Of course it could be used just for A2DP phone audio transfer instead of iPod but that's a good start
