This is promising. I called Navtec this morning and it looks like the next update for north america will be in September and not August as originally expected. For those of using US maps on EU units, hopefully being able to back up also means being able to patch an original DVD to work.

I already made a backup last week.

It works fine. The backup is already in my Navi (version D), I experience no problems at all !

If it's so old news, maybe you can share how you made the backup on a PC (if you made the backup on a PC). The only reported backup was made on a Mac and was pending final confirmation that it is indeed working fine.

I used Alcohol 120% in combination with a LG Dual Layer DVD burner.

First I made an image, then I managed to burn the image with Alcohol..No stress!

Cool Sounds like it's the same process as before which makes me hope that the patched US DVD can be used with the Euro 0330+ software. I guess I will have to give it a try when I get my 2005_1 DVD.

Are you sure you copied the 2005_2 DVD disk? Anyone can copy the 2005 disk, but not the 2005_1 or 2005_2 disks.

And yes.. I'm 100% sure I cloned the 2005_2 DVD. Since I bought it on Ebay and since I upgraded a -C- unit as well, which reads 0360 as current Software Version..

Just curious, will the upgraded software on the version D still read a US patched DVD? There were issues with the 2004 Euro maps not being backward compatible once upgraded with the 2005_2 DVD.

So far it has not been confirmed that the patched US DVD work in a Euro unit with software 0330 or newer.

I just upgraded another -C- unit (I have currently 6 in stock :lol: ) to the newest firmware.

UNFORTUNATELY THE PATCHED EU DISC WITH US 2004 WAS NOT RECOGNIZED (AS EXPECTED)..

The 0360 software is really innovating. The backward compatibility problems are also a problem using the patched US DVD.

I'm afraid we can only solve this with the newest 2005 US DVD (they expect it late august)..

Hi everybody! Great news on the possible modifications of the new 2005_2 Nav DVD. Question to all, can the new European DVD (made for software 0330) be made to work on a US RNS-E Navigation System? I am waiting to get my 2005_2 DVD and need the details on how to get this done? Or does anyone have an ORIGINAL European DVD with a modified one which will work on a US Nav (A4) system for sale.

Does anybody know what the differences are between the European 2005_1 and 2005_2 DVDs? New map data? Worth upgrading?

I've tried to backup my 2005_1 DVD with alcohol 120% and it did not work, the RNS-E sees the DVD as an update disc only.

I've also tried clonecd, blindwrite and nero. Same result

Looks like the guys on tyresmoke.net have managed to make some kind of copy of the 2005_2 DVD on a Mac - but when tested it only shows motorways.

So we're not there yet - but getting closer.
