I've had my RNS-E since august now. It was working perfectly for a while. Then, my iPod input stopped working. It is hooked up through a Blitzsafe adapter through the CD changer input. Now, I either get a lot of background noise (a steady beeping sound almost) or, no input at all. The sound is not alternator whine.

To fix the problem, I pulled out the RNS-E and checked all of the connections I made. I soldered each connection to ensure a good attachment, and put it back in. The iPod worked briefly (about 1 day) and now it is back to not working again.

Any ideas on what else might be wrong? I have checked my solders, and they all look solid.

Additionally, my location is way off right now. It seems like the speed wire is sending incorrect data or something. If I sit in one spot for a while, the unit usually figures out where I am, but if there is any movement, it gets wildly inaccurate in short order.

Help! I am seriously about to just pull the RNS-E and chuck it, these two problems make it less functional than my Symphony unit...

For the iPod, did you make sure that the ground wire is properly connected? Regarding the RNS-E, did you check if you get a speed signal and enough sat by looking at the data in Engineering Mode or by using a VAG-COM cable?

If I look at "receivable satellites" on the RNS it is usually 4-5, or more. The grounds all appear fine- and everything has worked perfectly at some point. I am getting extremely frustrated with this!

It sounds like your unit is misinterpreting the speed signal.

What car is it fitted in and how have you coded it?

Are their any fault codes reported by VAG-COM?

Last time I pulled codes- I did not see any faults other than some old DVD unreadable errors (I had a bad burn, which I replaced). The unit is coded for an A6- and I have a B5S4

Looks like the antennae shorted out. I looked in the wiring and somehow the insulation had worn through on the GPS antenna. Hmm. Problematic. Could this have fried the GPS antenna? I cleared the codes and drove for a while. No codes reappeared but the nav was still giving incorrect locations.

Looks like you may need a new GPS antenna.

Also the CD changer fault code means that your iPod interface had a problem on 14th December - worth clearing that fault code to see if the iPod interface works correctly again (the iPod interface actually connects to the CD changer input on the RNS-E).

I'll have to source a new GPS antenna I guess. As for the iPod interface- I've had that code before, and cleared it. That doesn't fix my iPod issues.
