UK costs for Colour DIS

Spoke to my dealer today about the cost of the DIS upgrade i was told £480 for the unit plus £90 surcharge as my unit is red DIS so they class it as not like for like and about an hours labour £80 so all told £650 to upgrade. question is do i want it enough i am a bit disapointed they will not exchange my red unit.
Could i ask a question to all the brave and dedicated people who have done the upgrade is it a major improvement in graphical sense is there any functions that dont work correctly does it intergrate fully.

Thanks

Does anyone know if there was C5 platform color DIS... or which newer platform will fit the C5 DIS dimensions?
The C5 never had a color DIS and there is no other cluster with color DIS that would work in the C5. Sorry.

So judging from this thread - if I went to the dealership they would be able to replace my non-DIS cluster with a color DIS (as well as swap the cruise control stalk or whatever) for me?

Would they do an exchange for the one I have? Or would I just have to pay a ton for this small upgrade?

For reference, I have a 2006 8P A3. Since it's a Sport with a manual and no convenience package it has no DIS at all (not even the red or half-screen one). I recently installed the RNS-E but do kind of miss having the trip computer and all.

You would pay about $1000 just for the red DIS (in the A4 the red DIS and the color DIS cluster cost about the same if you don't have a broken one to return) and wiper stalk, there is no color DIS for the A3 (yet, there are rumors that it may get one sometimes next year). And I doubt that any US dealer will officially enable the DIS for you.

Ah, for some reason I thought nav-equipped A3s had a color DIS. That's quite a lot for just an install of the red one.

Does that include parts and labor? Is it possible for me to just get the parts and install it myself? (I have a VAG-COM setup already, but don't know if that's enough to make a new instrument cluster work).

I guess I could ask the dealer the next time I'm over there just to see.

In the A4 the imobilizer has to be programmed by the dealer, I guess it's the same in the A3. The number is only a rough estimate for parts and labor.

I managed to pick up a colour screen a few weeks ago, and yesterday I managed to get the time to have a bash at fitting it. Unfortunately it was a waste of my day, as the connections on the cluster for each screen are different.

Red screen connector (single ribbon, still connected to cluster):

Colour screen connector (ribbon + power presumably):

So I guess the only way of doing this is actually to change the cluster. Such a shame.

The next question is... which parts of the cluster control the immobiliser? And do you think they can be transplanted to another cluster

I thought the same but its not just a case of transplanting the chip as its in two parts one in the cluster one in the ECU the ONLY way i have been told is to take it to Audi who will recode the chip to the keys and ECU.

i bought a new cluster from my audi dealer with Colour DIS to match my car and it was installed within an hour, this would be the advice i would give you take to them its an hours labour but also their problem
