I need any kind of advise on this one. One guy is installing RNS-E in his 05 S4 but he got some problems....

Those are the sympthoms he described:
1. NAV guildance is working and I can have direction info in my DIS
2. NAV Voice is working loud and clear
3. NO FM - no reception and can't find anything after SCAN.
4. NO Audio CD, SD-MP3 and CD-R MP3 have breaking up sounds.

I told him to send unit back to me so I could test it, and he did. I plugged it into my car and everything is working fine. I even tested with different cables, but nothing AM / FM / XM / SD / CD / TV / DVD everything is working fine.

Is there any special wiring in B6 S4 I'm not aware of, or anything else cou;d cause the problem? I will set online video conference to guide him through the install but I suspect that it is related to connection in his car not unit or adapters.

Any ideas?

My adapter had the alarm gnd wire on the car wired to the radio mute on the RNS-e

Had the effect of no noise coming out most of the time and when it did it would stop for no reason and make crackles etc

May not be the same but worth checking

I actually am the guy who is currently dealing with Proxus. (BTW, the unit where Proxus sold to me is 8E0 035 192 - yes, there is NO "letter" follows - see if this matters.... ?!)
I post the same thread about 10 days ago and no one comes with suggestions.

The unit is working as per Proxus's video he sent me. Looks like there is some unknown campatibility issue here with my S4.

I don't have any mod on my S4 except a hardwired V1.

There is no 8E0 RNS-E with no index letter. With VAG-COM you should be able to see the real part number.

I am no expert on this issue. But when i am looking at the unit serial# label. There is no "letter" on it. I don't have VAG at home, I was asking for a favor from an audi fan in town to VAG me last time, so I cannot confirm it. But how can I get the true part#?

Actually it is :D I have few like that:

[siteimg:af27e56628]331[/siteimg:af27e56628]

Whoever was coding this unit for S4 GTR placed incorrect soft code in STG 56 (Navigation System) -> Coding -> Function 07

But even with bad coding I plugged unit to my car and it worked fine

Index letter got nothing to do with it because every function was working fine during B6 test.
I tested this unit on my 2004 A4 ...and I don't believe that there is any difference between my car and 2005 S4. Is it? 8-[

Proxus,
If we cannot settle this down after the web cam session, I would like to have my money refunded (I am willing to absorb all the shipping you paid). I don't think this is too much to ask! :D

Whatever the sticker says, the unit is likely not a 8E0 035 192.
I got 3 of those from Austria. I connected all of them today and all work perfect. I will try to VAG it tomorrow to see how they are coded.
I have one of these without the last letter. It turns out that the label was fake... When I connected to VAG-COM, the unit was a 4BO!!!

How can I check it without VAG it?
Or, which module do I need to look at it?

Only way to be sure is with VAG-COM.
Temporarily fit it in your car using your adapter and, provided the K-line is connected in your adapter, you'll be able to interrogate it from the diagnostics socket using VAG-COM.

Units without revision letters are from Poland.
You better keep your hands of these RNS-E Systems, because they are from unknown source and probably re-furbished with reprinted labels.
(Most of these systems seems to be stolen and are blocked by Audi Diagnostic systems. Once your dealership connects his OBD-tools to your car, it will recognize the system as a stolen device).

Since you're not sure what's inside the system, you better take a system with an official printed label and a valid VAGCOM id.

My main supplier told me that currently many stolen units from germany are de-coded in Poland, and then sold via Ebay or other (gray) channels..
(the most navigation units without the revision number have the same pin code : 1825)..

If you buy RNS-E units, be very careful and ask pictures of the actual navigation system you're buying.. Watch out!

It's good to know...I have few suppliers in Germany & Austria. 2 of them are authorized Audi dealers so I'm sure about them, but for the rest I will VAG every unit during pre-shipment testing, just in case.

There is only 1 possible way I can see to be causing the symptoms is a short to the amp

I am guessing that the volume is fine when using nav voice, because this is only transmitted to the front speakers

Now if there is a short/intermittent short in the rear speaker preouts, before the amp, it would take down all 4 channels.

So if the old radio was working, then connecting the new nav-unit is causing problems, it can only be the adapter cable. Most of these are home/hand made, and after all we are only human.

I suggest to remove channel by channel, starting with the rear and test

There is nothing else that can be causing these probs, assuming both radios have the same speaker output ie. front non amplified, rears amplified

by non amplified I mean not using an external amp

It is not in mute 100%. I can hear break up sounds from FM and CD. (like a few seconds) from all my speakers. but then it turned to mute.
