I'm switching from a B5 S4 to a B6 S4.

What Phatbox cables am I going to need to hook my phatbox up in the new car?

The new B6 S4 has the in dash 6 disc changer. So I know I'll need to run a cable from the RNS-E to the phatbox. The car already has satellite radio and I'll be using that also. I'm pretty sure that my "custom cable" will work for this setup also.

If anyone has some info on this please let me know!

T-dog,
It all depends on where you want to mount your pbox....and if you want to retain your existing custom sat/phat cable.

1) The connector behind your glovebox CDC is different than what you will have in your trunk....to that isn't any real use to you. Sorry, I don't have any pix handy.

2) If you want to retain the same custom cable that you built..then it is easiest to spend the $$ and get the OEM CDC cable for a trunk CDC. see my sig below for a link to my pbox install in AW....for part#'s etc. I think Clair sells this cable for $100....but I've seen them listed in ebay.de for about $60. You could try and build one...but the time, parts and effort...will probably run you about $70+ anyway.

Try this one (shall I reserve my pin extraction tools for you)??:

Final thoughts:
In the B6 sedan, it seems like the trunk is the best place for you pbox. Just seems like less wiring work. Besides, you'll have to remove the door sill trim anyway....to run your GPS extension wire....so just run the OEM CDC cable at the same time as well.

Also, just make sure you connect your CDC ground point behind the Sym II/RNS-E correctly. As I recall, the B6 doesn't have the same metal mounting "cage" as the B5.

Good luck....you lucky bastard!! I would kill to have that Recaro interior in my A6. :)
I appreciate the info and I'm sure I'll have more questions when the time comes to install everything.

One more thing, will I need a new wiring harness adaptor to make the RNS work with the B6 or, am I right in saying that its just plug n' play.
It seems to me like this will be an easy install... your B6 will have the Symphony II with SAT.

You will not need your "todd-cable" for this installation. You will need to buy the Audi CD changer trunk cable (or similar).

The only "special" thing you will have to do is this:

When installing your cd changer extension cable, route the three audio wires from the phatbox to the SAT tuner in the trunk instead of using the three audio wires that will be in your cd changer extension cable.

It's that simple. You could probably modify your todd-cable to acheive this, and I can describe exactly what you need to do over email if you like.

Yup, thats another way to do it....but requires some extra rewiring behind the Sym II/RNS-E and in the T8s connector. Nothing really major...but 3 sets of pins will have be swapped around

I just happen to prefer the sat/phat cable because its simple...and you don't have to think too much about it....plus...you already have the cable built.

Todd: It might be easier if do all these wiring changes before your RNS-E gets installed. Your call.

Yeah, I'm trying to get all of my harnesses and things done before I actually get the car. Its just a little overwhelming, trying to do this and work the deal on the car. It seems I'm more focused on these little projects than actually buying the car.

As you can see I'm really excited. One thing I did notice is that in the new S4 with Shark fin antenna for Sirius Satellite. I was doing the same thing as my current setup. It was sayin "Linking" on the screen like I do a lot here in Florida. I'm still beginning to believe that Sirius here in Florida is not that great reception wise, but I like the programming better.

He's going to have to wire behind his headunit anyway, because he has no external CD changer in the B6 S4. There won't be any pin swapping... just plug in the CD changer data and power wires from the new CD changer extension cable. His todd-cable will just complicate things because he already has OEM sat radio prewiring...which is the complete opposite situation than his old setup.

Since he has SAT prewired, the only thing he has to wire is the phatbox. It's simple and requires no pins to be extracted:

-Connect data and power to headunit through the CDC extension cable.

-Connect audio wires to audio inputs on the SAT tuner in trunk.
Ohhhh, my brain is scattered!!!!
