509313 coding means:

5 = A6
0 = front speaker fault tracing ON
9 = Bose
3 = Cullmann phone fitted
1 = no SAT radio
3 = CD changer

So the incorrect coding could be for the following reasons:

1) you don't have a Cullmann phone system in your car
2) you don't have a correctly wired up CD changer in your car

what would I need it set at?

I have the A6 RNS-E in my B5 S4 with OEM Sirius Tuner & Phatbox with a custom made wiring harness. Would the head unit have lost its memory if it had been uplugged for about an hour?

I would try 501133

5 = A6 - for separate speed signal to work
0 = Front speaker diagnostics active
1 = A4 sound characteristic - unless you have Bose when this should be 9
1 = no telephone - unless you have a telephone
3 = satellite radio
3 = CD changer - in your case Phatbox

The coding should be stored in non-volatile memory.
I tried changing it to: 0509333

Once I put in the recode, it would't store it and would go back to 0509313

My satellite radion works fine with this code, so I don't know what it could be?
