my computer will not recognize it. Any ideas? It is brand new but it was from China is that the problem?

Have you tried formatting it?

I got my 4GB SD card from Hong Kong, so China per se shouldn't be an issue - there's no "zoning" on SD cards like with DVDs.

I'm using two 1Gb scandisk cards from Kingston and they work great!

Heh, SanDisk is a brand name, not a format name. The format is called Secure Digital (SD) or MultiMedia Card (MMC) depending on how the data is stored on the card; SD and MMC cards are identically sized and generally interoperable.
